Hi guys
I need help my -1 has been stuffering badly lately from cold starting and gets worse and worse over time. Its taking the pi** to start her, and i can only get going again by bump starting her! I have recently done oil change, spark plug change, new air filter over the last month. The carbs were rebuilt about a 1000 miles ago. Any suggestions guys?? It does smell rich of petrol when you try and start it. No petrol leaks either, just strong smells from the exhaust. And sorry its not SV related, my SV is sitting warm in the garage at the moment!! ![]() |

Well, depends. I don't know CB-1s but sometimes carbs do need work, worn out emulsion jets, that sort of thing...
I'd wonder if the choke's working right, but other that that... Typical Honda build quality, should've bought a Suzuki ![]()

The carbs were taken apart and put back together with new seals, as well as being blown with compress air. Keep the suggestions coming guys, really appricate it! ![]() |

Battery out and on a charger overnight. See if that makes a difference?
Buy a new battery. Be thankful you just need to bump an wee il4 and not your SV! ![]() The joys of winter biking. ![]() |

Evening all.
An often overlooked issue that causes bad cold starting is tight valve clearances, it's not a job that many competent DIYers feel up to undertaking, so it doesn't get done. And as the engine usually seems ok when it does finally start, most folks assume it to be something else I.E. carburettors/choke etc. Being an import there is no proper info available from Honda in the UK, but I have done these in the past using the clearance specification of other Hondas with similar valvegear (which is most of them). I.E. CBR400 NC29's Cheers. |

Have a look on here http://wzeu.ask.com/r?t=p&d=eu&s=uk&....hondacb1.com/
It's where I used to get all my info for my 1 ![]() ![]() As a few of the others said mine had trouble starting in the cold and that was down to a crap battery as soon as I fitted a new one no more trouble ![]() |
