Default Electrics dead, Except alarm..... which works. HELP!

2002 650s curvy one, meta alarm, scottoiler, Stopped working on me the other day, everything died at about 60 mph on busy road at night, rather scary... however, the alarm still works, battery is fully charged.
Now i have checked the rest of the forum for answers to this, but bit stumped! when i put key in and turn alarm off it beeps and flashes the indicators, and on dash (as normal) but then nothing happens, no lights on dash, no headlight, nothing.
bike got very wet the other day, but this shouldn't happen should it???
argggggh!!! Help Please supermen and women, i need my lovely bike!

I'm wondering if the alarm is fed directly from the battery so still can work the alarm & flash the indicators

I suggest you check the master fuse. IIRC under RH triangular panel in a Green box on the starter solenoid. Should be one fuse plus a spare

Good Luck

Have you checked the main fuse? Could have blown because of water shorting something.

Sounds sensible to me...

As above really.

It's either the master fuse, or a combination of fuses most likely.

Less likely is a broken live wire, or possibly a faulty ignition.

All good candidates.

The same thing happened to me, was caused by the main fuse blowing.

You might want to check in around the headstock and under the fuel tank, and make sure that the wiring loom hasnt rubbed on the frame exposing bare wires. This is what happened to me and it caused a short that made the fuse blow.

just checked fuses etc. they were all fine and couldn'y see any bare wires.... forgot to mention that it cut out and came back to life a couple of times, then limped home and died, now is very dead, but can hear the scottoiler (i think) whirring away when i turn the ignition on. nothing else,... thanks for speedy replies guys

If you were near me it'd be easier to investigate.

If I were you though, I'd grab a multimeter, and print off a copy of the wiring diagram (I can PM this to you if you can't find it).

Start with the fuses, see what's got power & what hasn't at the fuse level, this will help to isolate circuits more. Go from the fuse to the negative battery terminal (take the fuse out if you have to, obviously only one side will work, the other wont, if neither do, then the circuit doesn't work). Cross of everything that has power when the ignition is turned on. Follow the diagram for the next places to check, and cross of everything you find to be working.

In theory, this should leave you with one common place to all the parts that are NOT crossed out on your diagram. It'll either be positive or negative, but that doesn't matter, this common component of any circuits not working is where your problem is.

Failing that, stick it in the back of a van, and bring enough money to buy me a beer when we're done (probably not an option since I live out in the sticks )

Good guess there mate, but it's not the Scottoiler that whirs. Me thinks that you have a pointy and that would make it the FUEL PUMP than whirs then you turn on. Check the clutch lever switch as prime candidate, since the side stand switch would allow you to start it in neutral whereas the clutch switch lever switch just kills the whole lot.

Cheers,

Garry

righto will attempt all of that when the light returns to the grim north in the morning! dont have a pointy (unfortunatly) its the shapely curvy one, and if it doesnt work it might get a bit more angular after i take a hammer to it!
