Hello-when changing the cam chain tensioners is it just a case of undoing the two bolts and removing them or do you need to do anything else before there removed?.

Hi mate
Yes it is. ![]() Gaskets might be gubbed, they're about £1 each. I rounded off my cct bolts too. Best to buy replacements if I am honest. Good luck with swapping them. I guarantee you'll break something through frustration if you haven't played about with them before. ![]() |

Some people say to always do it at TDC... I never have, since I don't check timing afterwards it'd probably make no difference but then, maybe the chain's less likely to skip at TDC. I don't really see any risk of it jumping time as long as you don't turn the engine with the tensioner out, confident enough of that to do it myself but I wouldn't want anyone else to depend on it
![]() Not a bad idea to remove the engine plug and turn the crank by hand (well, by big wrench) before starting though, that'll tell you quick enough if the chain's jumped enough to mangle the valves. Very unlikely that that would happen, IMO, but when it takes 5 minutes to check there's a good case for needless redundancy ![]()
