Default Can to be repacked again, grr

Its only been 6 months since i last repacked my Micron can and now it needs doing again.

On my way up north on sunday, i was noticing it was getting louder but did not do anything as i knew i could not. Got there and looked at the can and found that the rubber seal from the bottom of the can had been blown out, i was forced to do the whole day without it there and also to work today.

Anyway, got home removed the can and proceeded to pull it apart to find that half the packing has disappeared, not happy me, so anyway i put the rubber seal back on and i now need to get some more packing and do it properly.

Its probably the way i ride that has blown the can early.

yep, you remove that bolt then you will if unlucky spend the next 30mins trying to take the caps off from both ends. Once you have done that you can put the new packing on the center core and then put it back together again. Sounds easy but its not as the caps dont go back on very easly if you have to replace the rubber seals.

I read about some steel wool that goes around the core - then standard packing around this. Apparently it prolongs the life of the packing. They sell it on flea bay if you are looking.
