Today I spent a little time weighing some rear wheels. Well, you've got to have a hobby. I compared an SV rear, a Bandit 1200 rear, and for giggles, a Ducati ST4 rear (no, I don't know if it'll fit, haven't got that far.
The SV wheel, on my bathroom scales, weighs in at 6.2 kilos including its cush drive rubbers, bolts etc, but no sprocket carrier, disc or sprocket. The Bandit 12 wheel weighs in at... 6.2 kilos, with exactly the same parts. Hmm. And the Brembo ST4 wheel weighs in at a surprising 6.2 kilos. So, it's quite possible my scales don't work with smaller weights ![]() On the other hand, the Duke sprocket carrier is 400 grams lighter than the Bandit one, and is cleverly made to allow a physically small sprocket- the Duke's steel sprocket's about half the weight of a Bandit one. I've not weighed the SV carrier as it's holding my sprocket on, might do that tomorrow.

You could always use a 525 sprocket on the B12 wheel like I did made up from a Renthal alloy blank!! And it will be a lot lighter than the standard 530 one.

![]() 2 extra wheels? Oh, if only. There's 7 bike wheels in the garage, I think, though I might have chucked out the mangled SV one that came with my spare SV rear. One set silver GSR front/SV rear (on the bike), one set gold GSXR/SV, 2 Bandit 12 rears and the Brembo. I'm considering setting up a business. Or possibly a car ![]() I'm going to see if it fits an SV. If not, I'll use the B12 and think again for nicer ones. If it does, I'll be looking for a 5-spoke front to fit. I really like 5-spokes y'see. And so does everyone else, that's why just about every wheel company makes a 5-spoke ![]()

And the verdict is- ST4 Brembo/Marchesini wheel should fit in an SV, with spacers on the left, and new bearings or a captive spacer in the wheel, and a new brake hanger. Quite a lot of work really... Though it'd look wicked of course.
