how to tell if you have to much slop in the chain?
I have had bikes with belts up until now. It seems really loose, but what do I know. How do I tell if it has the correct tension? |

I believe the chain should have 25 to 30mm of free play, though I can't remember if that's unladen or not (it gets tighter when not leaning on the stand and tighter still when you sit on the bike).

You are supposed to sit on the bike and check you chain tension.

30mm in the middle of the bottom run of the chain.Measure it with the tightest bit of the chain on the bottom run,as all chains have tight and loose sections.I use this figure as a minimum, and measure it unloaded.Never had any problems with the chain being set too tight.
