Default Help! Not sure where to start...

I'd appreciate any thoughts from you knowledgeable people on what might be wrong with my lovely 2000 SV650...

I started it a little while back on one of the (very, very) wet days we were having in London and it ran perfectly for about 30 seconds or so, then died and refused to start again.

No coughing, spluttering, nothing, it stopped like I'd turned the key. Now it refuses to start again. I've charged the battery back up and given it a proper go - the starter turns fine but the engine doesn't fire.

Any ideas on what to check? Where to start even? Fried electrics in the wet?

Many thanks for any thoughts,

Y

If not electrical then I would consider water in fuel,no fuel or fuel pump problems.

Have you checked the fuses etc?

Possible candidate for chafed wiring.

Curvy models had several known places where the wiring caould get damaged.

Check behind both the bolts holding the rider's seat on (remove the black triangle pieces first)

Remove the pillion seat and check on the left side of the bike where wiring wraps round a frame bracket as it goes towards the ignition electronics box at the back (just about under where the grab-rail fixes on)

Also check where the wiring wraps round near the headstock.

Any of these areas can cause these sort of problems, and fuses often fail as a result (though not always).

As above, but also fouled plugs due to water ingress?
