Unhappy Curse of new rubber

Setting of at 7:30 this morning for a nice 4 hour ride with some friends, I noticed the bikes handling was gradually getting worse, wobbling out of fast curves and slowing quickly off the throttle (the Gixxer felt like it had SV engine braking!). Hmmm, better check the rear tyre pressure!. Yep, 5psi (was 36 yesterday!) Well of course, the tyre is only 400 miles old so of course it has to be a puncture And there it is, a tiny nail (from a Rapesco type nail gun). So home very slowly by 8:45. And its so warm.

As the tyre is barely scrubbed in and the punture is dead centre, do you think a tyre repair would be advisable. Its a ContiSport Attack and I've had repairs hold before but I am doing Nurburgring 2 day training in July and will be touching 160 on the straight. Maybe get it repaired and change the rear in July? Comments welcome!

It sounds as if a repair should be possible, though only an inspection will tell you for certain.

It may be repairable, but if i was doing the ring i'd buy a new un for that.

I thought repairs were only good for a certain mph but I think I'll get it repaired for now and buy some stickier tyres before I go. The ride to Nurburgring should scrub them in

That's unlucky. On thje bright side, the ride to the worlds best toll road will scrub the new tyre in just fine

The same thing happened to my 400 mile old tyre just before Easter!

I got a new one fitted straight away as I had a trackday last week, but Guildford Tyre have sent the tyre away for repair. TBH I'm usually pretty cautious about tyres, but the method used to fix the puncture apparently means that it will be guaranteed to the same speed rating as a new tyre. As far as tyre repairs go, £30 isn't the cheapest but it's certainly less than a new Pilot Power 2CT!

I had a repair once before an never felt 100% happy on a track day with it but I didn't know the rating would stay the same. £30 is what I paid.

Moffatt - I can't wait to get to the Ring, I'll be very disappointed if I wont need new tyres anyway after 2 days on it!
