I am selling my car which currently has 2 months' MoT remaining. I'm pretty sure it'd pass an MoT without needing anything doing to it, & that I could get a few quid more for it with a full years' MoT
so .. can I take it for an MoT, & if it fails, is the two months remaining on the old MoT still valid? is there any record that it's failed? |

IF it fails the MOT then it has failed, record is made and the points where its failed are given to you to fix. So you would lose those 2 months.

Also I'm not sure if you can even get it MOT'd that early, I normally remember on the day before it needs to be done !!!

Of course you can get it MOTed early. But if it passes they cannot extend it from the expiry of the previous MOT unless it is 1 month prior to the exirey date. Also if it fails, the previous MOT document is still valid, but in truth wouldn't you want to fix anything that was a fail issue before you drove it.
