Default Dunlop D208 Problem

Riding to work yesterday morning the bike felt very unstable (as if I had a puncture). Got to work & took a look at the rear tyre and found this.

It has started to do this all the way round which worries me a bit, as you can see, there is still a bit of tread on it.
Anybody else had this problem?

Mister c, there is still a bit of thread but even at that the tyre looks quite worn IMHO.

Is the tyre a soft compound?

Ben

EDIT: Did you check the tyre pressure? Low pressure in a tyrethat is on it's way out would make the tyre wear even faster.
Also when tyre get quite worn, even with correct pressure, some can give similar feeling to a puncture.

Tyre Pressures are checked regularly. I have just bought a new tyre. I just find it a bit scary that, in theory, it is still legal, but it is falling apart.
I have got a new D208, so I will have to keep my eye on it.

What a coincidence ! Examined my D208 the other evening after a 600 mile return trip to Le Mans and noticed a very similar fault - although not as extreme as your photo. Again mine is not an old tyre and the pressures are spot on. Will keep an eye on it after this - don't want it disintergrating on me !

I had the same thing happen to the last Z6 Roadtec I had fitted to the rear.

Only mine was a lot worse, and you could see the carcass.

Quick trip to the shop & fitted a new tyre. Wallet feels lighter too, so the bike goes faster

Some tyres D208 & Z6 included do not have any tread across the centre. This means it can be trickier to see when the rubber's wearing thin if you do a lot of upright riding.

I think this may be what's happened.

That means I'll have to stick to roundabouts from now on so I can get my moneys worth

Cheap re-treads throwing their tread ... I dunno ...

In my case, I knew the tyre was getting a little low. I checked the tyre out of curiosity, planning to wait a week to get it changed. Basically "do I still have 600 miles use in this rubber?"

Erm, nope! Change it now!

And yes, the customary burnout was performed. The tyre would of been useless to anyone else anyhow.

How's your rear shock?Clapped out suspension can cause the tyre to wear in ripples around the middle which can degenerate into patches like that.
Just a thought.
