Default Indicators without a battery?

Quick question...

Firstly, hello everyone - long time no speak/see/hear/think! Loving the new look, and the home page photo is fantastic.

I'm helping a friend with a very old Vespa 125 T.S. and she wants indicators on it (makes her feel safe, bless) but the scooter has no battery. It's 12v (I gather from looking at the rear light bulb) but that's about all I know. My plan was to by the indicators, resistor thing that makes it 'tick' and use a switch already on the bike that isn't in use.

Anyone know if it's possible to put indicators on a bike with no battery? Surely....

Yes it is, I had a bec (battery elemination circuit) circuit on the Armstrong which allowed it to both start and run aux without the battery fitted.

Although I don't know how you'd smooth the generator flow without one, I'm sure it's possible.

Cheers Mark.

To smooth the generator output use a regulator

Dogsportcam do one (intended for use in cars) for about £20. Also Maplin do one, stock code is N70AU, found here.

CG125's (older ones) run the lights etc from the motor & not the battery, so can't imagine why you'd have problems adding indicators.

dude there are 2 or 3 vespa forums on the net with a lot of geniouses on there

scooterboyworld is one - and very good

I had a PX125 which i then turned to a PX200 Disc and it had no battery but had indicators. I would suggest before you go out buying little bits speak to someone who knows about vespas cuase there might be an easier solution than running wires through the frame which ain't easy!!

600+, that's what I realised yesterday when I decided to give up for the day. The whole frame is sealed - nightmare!

But thanks for the tips, I'll check out the forums of question and attempt to tackle it next weekend.

Interesting idea Mr Viney, I will investigate that thought also...

Dont they run AC systems instead of DC?
