Default R1 front end?

I'm still not satisfied about my front end. Currently, I have installed: harder springs, thicker oil and the emulator kit. Maybee the weight of the oil, air-chamber and the damping are wrongly set-up, but I don't think it will improve more...

This day I was browsing a begian forum and I saw one guy selling a front end and a set of wheels from an R1 (1999-2001). Now I remember that someone installed this front end to his SV, but I can't remember if I saw this at this forum or not. I used the search but din't find anything about it. Does anybody know who I am talking about? Because I have some questions for him.

He is asking 300 euro for the front end (forks, triple trees, calipers, clip-ons...) and the set of wheels (with rotors/discs and good tires) 350 euro. Is this the right price?

I remember that with these forks I can use the stock speedo drive in the wheel, which is a good thing!

Cheers,

All i can rememebr about it, is that the R1 front end is very short. This will lead to VERY fast turn in. Even with the introduction of a 70 section tyre doesnt help much.

Will it not help to put more pre-load on it?

I have already found who it was (someone from the US of A) and here is a picture of his bike:

Preload will not alter the length of the forks, just where they are in terms of travel for a given load. If the actual R1 front end is a lot shorter as Viney says the whole front of the bike will be lower altering the geometry to make it more extreme.

The stock R1 front end isnt great anyway. The forks have a tendancy to over extend under acceleration thats why the bike was known for its tendancy to run wide mid turn under hard gas. Plus the R1 forks are the most costly to revalve.

Wrong. The R1 forks(98- ) is very long. Much longer that the GSXR forks.

The length of the fork from top to axle is 75 cm, says the seller! What about the GSXR?

TBH, the reason everyone uses GSXR is because it's dead easy and they;re very good forks... You can make anything fit with work, but IIRC using the R1 front end means playing about with axles, etc, to make the wheel work. Not sure if the R1 rear will fit in an SV either. So it might work brilliantly, I have honestly no idea, but you're giving away a big advantage I reckon.

On the other hand, doing it the cookie-cutter way like most folks do is just boring
