Default Ohlins, Hagon, Hyperpro etc shocks for curvey

I've been gifted some money, and have decided that a good investment would be a nice spaking new shock. I'm currently running a ZX6 B1H shock which has been a useful spring rate and damping for my weight or approx 15 stone. But I fancy a new un that'll do the job even better as I've made a committment to keep me SV for a few years.

Now having looked around, it seems that there are more options when it comes to getting a new shock than I'd realised and was hoping for some useful feedback before spending some of my hard gifted cash!!

I obviously appreciate that there is quite a broad price range, but any pointers would be useful.

Thanks
Jase

If you already have a good shock on it that suits your weight how about spending the money on sorting the front?I find a good front end is more reassuring than a good rear anyway. No smut please.

I have fitted Maxton rear shock and Maxton cartridge conversion on the front and the results are excellent Not cheap but, for me personally, worth every penny. They are both tuned to my weight and fully adjustable, but to be honest they were so good as supplied by Maxton I have only reduced the low speed compression damping on the rear a few clicks. I've had my SV for over 5 years now and am in no hurry to part with it, so I'm happy my spending is justified.

It's not an especially good shock, and the damping curves are all off for SV use (and Ninja use for that matter ) But it's not bad at all either IMO.

Still, a good rear is a lot of money to spend. I've got about £350 spent on mine- buying it used, the rebuild and respring- and it's possibly worth it. Maybe But it's not such a massive change as the GSXR front was- going back to a stock SV rear is irritating, but riding an SV with a totally front stock is pretty nasty when you're used to a better one, or I think so anyway.

I've got a curvy WP in the garage that I'm not sure what to do with... Snapped it up on Ebay but I'm not sure whether to refurbish it, get it set up spot on and fit it instead of the Ohlins, or just clean it up and sell it on. It's a pretty scabby just now But I might just sell it on in a while, not sure.

Front end has already had some money spent on it, got some nice springs and such like so I'm happy with that.

I plumped for an Ohlins at the back, very chuffed with the result.

Yeah I was thinking the Ohlins was a little pricey, cheapest I found was £426 all in for a spanker, although perhaps I'll get some show discount at the NEC?

There's also a WP stand there so I'll check them out too.

Hagon priced at £255 for their "standard" one, which is a piggy back shock as far as I can tell, I'd prefer a remote reservoir for the look since I'll be spending a few bob!!!

Maxton looked even more pricey than the Ohlins when I saw them though, I also looked at a few others, couldn't price up a Penske shock nor could I actually price up a WP one.

Hagon's cheaper for a reason though, just not as good. Not at all bad, mind, at £250 it's a great upgrade. The other thing, though, is resale- an Ohlins in good nick will sell well a year later, mine is probably worth the same as it was the day I bought it (used, mind). But Hagon's harder to shift, usually.
