Default Poor running on light throttle settings

Hi. Im the proud owner of an SV650s K2, 2002 model.

Although the bike runs well I have an iratating problem with it. If Im ridding around town with light touch on the throttle the bike seems to run a little rough. Get out onto the open road and open her up and all is wonderful!

At first I thought it might be carb iceing, but I have had the heaters and thermostat checked, all seem OK. Problem still there even in the warmer weather. The bike did at one time have an after market exchaust fitted, but now has the genuine Suzuki can. I mentioned this to the guy who serviced the bike for me. He said that the carb jets were correct. Valve clearence has been checked-OK. Plugs are OK too.

Any other ideas or is this a common fault on the SV?

Thanks for any info on this.

Sticking chokes?

Idle mixture adjustment?

(saying the jets are correct is a different issue) It's not easy to adjust the mixtures with teh engine hot and running, it's relatively easy if you have a 90deg drive tool specifically for the job. I've done mine with a combination of 1/4" drive socket extensions and flexibles etc, but it's difficult to do without the proper tool and the knowledge about what you're doing!

Also you'll usually find control is a lot better if you adjust nearly all of the slack out of the throttle cable. Smaller adjustments acn be done at the twistgrip end, otherwise lift the tank and airbox and set the adjustment down there.
