My bike is 1 year and 360 days old and last night the gearbox failed on the M1 at 7200miles.
I heard a strange noise (though it was a truck on the other side) and then got an occasional shudder through the pegs. Pulled off the make sure it wasnt the tyre but couldnt get neutral. the lowest gear I could get just crunched gears when I let out the clutch. It still moved so I turned around a rode back, tried it at 50mph but the noises (metallic rattles from gears not the engine)and vibrations were least at 35-40mph in 3rd-ish. Had to do 55miles tootling up the hard shoulder of the M1-M18-A1m. Nightmare but I got home and it didnt spit me off. Have given Cusworths in Doncaster a call and I have to speak to the workshop manager on monday who will assess whether this is a warranty job. Will have to be quick as its 5 days till it runs out. Its running on Silkolene oil and it has had any abuse like wheelies, track days etc... . Can't see why it would not be fixed under warranty. Although they didnt sell me the bike. Anyone had any experience of anything like this? Meant to be riding it to Italy soon! |

If the bike is still within the warranty period, dont let anyone fob you off - Some dealerships have been known to delay any inspection and subsequent works because its so near the end of the warranty....and this is on expensive german cars too!!

Make sure you log the date and time it failed in a way that can be verified.Don't rely on the bike dealer remembering when you phoned them up.Also, has the bike got a service history with all the services properly done at the right times and milages? It will need to have had it's first one at 600 miles, the next one at 12 months or 4000 miles (whichever came first)and another one at 8000 miles or 12 months after the last one if it has got that far.If any of them are missing, they will try to avoid the warrenty claim.

Hi,
Try & get something in writting to prove that you have contacted dealer within warranty period , I guess it will depend on your dealer, where I bought my bike they were c##p and I dread to think having major warranty work with them, however use Motorcycle Mart @ Kidderminster now and I recon they would be fine , it pays to know your dealer at times like these. However as long as you have got service history proof , can't see how they could refuse the warranty claim . I hope you get it sorted with minimum hassle . Cheers Steve

Note, that the warranty documents I have say that the bike has to be serviced according to the scedule by someone "mechanically capable."
Others have a version of the warranty documents that state it pretty much has to be dealership serviced as per the scedule!! Good luck, and keep us posted. Last edited by Baph; 21-05-07 at 08:57 AM. |

Just a general enquiry, why did you ride it 50 more miles when it was so clearly evident that there was something seriously wrong
![]() ![]() I would suggest that you do not mention this little fact when describing what happened. I am sure "they" would use anything at all to get out of having to do some rather massive repair work at their cost. Best of luck with getting it repaired under warranty. If it is a Suzuki dealership then they are required to make the repairs regardless if you bought the bike from them or not. |

A fix under warranty won't have to be performed inside the warranty period. The *claim* for service under the warranty will need to made while the warranty still stands. I'd imagine that Suzuki GB authorised dealers are required to provide warranty services as part of their contract, whether they'd supplied the bike or not. I could be wrong though...
