Hey guys, I've just put in my new BMC filter and the manual says there is an air cleaner drain plug that you can take out and empty of oil and water..
But I can't seem to locate where it is. There is a picture so I know what it looks like, but it doesn't show where it actually is. It says its located beneath the air cleaner box, but I'm not sure exactly what that means - can someone shed some light on this for me? FYI I've got a 650s model, is it hidden by fairings or something? Cheers |

By the look of your avatar you have a curvy, now if I remember right, you have on the right (sitting on the bike) under the air filter the oil trap from the engine breather and on the left a blanked off inch of tube, I'd prosume you mean one of those ?
just as a matter of interest how did you manage to get water in there ? Cheers Mark.

I didn't. But the manual says that this is where the oil/water goes, and should be periodically cleaned out. Yes its a curvy I forgot to say.
I'm still not clear exactly where it is though.. or how to get at it ![]() |

1. lift tank
2. undo the four screws holding in the air filter 3. remove air filter 4. look in both corners (nearest the seat end) look for the opening leading directly down from the airbox( apart from the two main ones). 5. wipe out any oil in there? 6. if you really have to ( and I don't know why you would) undo the metal clip around the short length of blocked off pipe and pull it off. 7. re-fit in reverse order. if you can't follow those simple instructions, then I'd suggest you get someone esle to have a look because it really is that simple. Cheers Mark.

Thanks mate. So its just in the airbox. From the picture it looked like there was a separate nook for it outside of it. I've wiped out the oil in there, but I've only had the SV for a month or so (and haven't actually ridden it due to licensing), I'll have a look with a flashlight

OK seriously, I must have a brain the size of a pea!?
I had a look inside the box, and the drain plug as depicted in the manual is not there. Someone with a curvy, please where is it? ![]() |

I really would worry about it. There's no need to drain. Unless you have had some serious over filling of the oil and it's blown back up the breather pipes back into the air box. Taking out the filter and wiping the inside of the air box should be sufficient.
There is a cap on the rear right hand side of the airbox from a drain point and also a cap at the end of a short section of hose. These are the drain points. |

The drain is slightly to the right of the front carb intake, and just looks like a hole in the bottom of the airbox- there's a pipe that leads down the side of the bike from there. It's not something you're decognise as a plug, that's bad wording from BMC. Do as Rictus and the Ape say and you'll be fine, I've never used the drain hose/plug thing.

Maybe there are slight variations over the years of production. I have a 2001 "S " and the oil drain is , as you sit on the bike, on the right hand side , hanging down from the bottom of the airbox almost exactly half way between the carbs with a plug you can pull out to drain any oil that has gathered.

Yep, that's the one. Same place on all curvy SVs.
