Eventfull Ride-out

Went for a lovely ride on Saturday with my mate on his gixxer 600, and it was just about the most eventful day I've ever had!

The route we took was: Plymouth to Liskeard via the A38. then up through to Callington, Lanceston, Bude, Bodmin and back to Plymouth via Torpoint.

Started off great, amazin weather and roads not too busy. Got lost on the route we were ment to take so just winged it and found some lovely roads.

Then the fun began. The road from Lanceston to Bude has been resurfaced in many parts with a hard wearing surface but this meant there were serious amounts of loose chippings which made the bike a bit wobbly, even at 15-20mph. Then, all of a sudden we came across a queue of about 4 cars and as we got closer we could see a car on it's side.

Me and my mate are or have been first aid trained so park the ikes and go help as not many seemed to care. Quite a few people sat in cars not even phoning for assistance, one man running about like a headless chicken trying to get an address whils on the phone and one gent with some wood trying to lift the car back upright to gain better access to the occupant!!

Managed to stop that from happening, made sure she was consious and got chatting with her. Made sure she was ok and confortable and that her injuries were ok then sat and chatted with her.

Nobody else as involved, she was just going a bit quick on the loose chippings and lost control, hit the bank and flipped it and luckily, she wasn't in a bad way and was airlifted to hospital.

Crazy thing is, the Guy who witnessed it was nearly hit by her and he had been just behind us when we stopped for a quick pee in a hedge. If we hadn't have stopped, maybe we wouldn't have been so lucky!

Road now closed so had to go through some dodgy lanes to get to bude but met some more bikers so got a bit of a convoy going on.

Got thoroghly de-hydrated after that so ended up with a banging headache. Drank and ate which helped a little so carried on with the ride. A little further on the the headache returned whcih made riding at too much of a pace became very challanging and at times dangerous (amazing what a headache does to your concentrtion and thought processses!) so backed off and rode at a more comfortable pace.

On the way back to Plymouth, stopped in a garage to relieve myself (easy now ) and on the way out failed to notice the gravel on the floor. Saw a gap, started to go for it, then saw a motorcycle copper. My brain being a bit frazzled by this point saw the copper and decided that I shouldn't go for the gap, I should instead apply the brakes. With that the front slid away and I began a merry dance with the front end of the bike. My mate couldn't do anything but watch me from the comfort of his bike. I eventually got enough puchase and strength to lift my bike before it hit the deck but I looked a complete pillock!

Must remember to drink more next time!!!

sound interesting and at least no damage to yourself. sounds like you should join the ecosse posse for a rideout, you will fit right in lol

Keeping hydrated on the bike is a must at this time of year and easily overlooked, I know what you mean about dehydration etc sapping your concentration.

Not a chance, I've heard accidents are contagious with the Eccosse lot!!
