Smile MODS/Paint/ . . . an almost fixed bike

Hey all,
now since ive joined ive had so many ideas for my bike, and asked alot of opinions from Front ends - to upping the engine another 100cc - to custom paint jobs and race fairings . . well . . .

as an update to the fairing and the paint job i went into DREAM MACHENE and they quoted me £500.00 for the whole repair and paint job - no way

if id had the money to do everything i wanted on my machine i would be completely broke with and mixed matched bike . .

My resolve for this is to just make it look a little nicer and leave the engine how it is and buy a new bike when its time . . .

since i binned my bike last september i have slowly replaced all parts that i needed, after running the machine with bent yokes for months i got new ones fitted thanks to Kwak lol, i got all the iddys changed ect and now its starting to look swwet again, like it did when it came out of the van for the first time.
i got a new viper zauhst too with baffle on its way and had a FULL service and its never ran better . . .just the cosmetics now.

only 3 more things now which id like some opinions on please

Should i have the massive dent in my tank popped out and painted, or should i just buy a new k5 red tank from suzuki?

Would anyone have there fork legs sprayed black?

A new red lower fairing, or a bellypan?

Lylej

1- Depends how big the dent is really, but i would probably just live with it...maybe get it fixed if the price is reasonable.

2- Probably not.

3-Lower fairing is preferable on a curvy, but a belly pan can look good(alpinestarhero's looks ok). For a pointy i think lowers or nothing

1) I'd try and find a used one, but that might be hard. Repair should be cheaper, if done right, but the colourmatch needs to be spot on. Or, put a nice sticker on it I'm planning to get some made up that say "Like all stickers, this sticker covers crash damage"

2) Yes, do the fork legs. Powdercoat is tougher, but wheel or engine paint is OK. Suzuki should've done it at the factory, the silver forks just look daft. IMO

3) BELLYPAN. Defo. Lowers are OK, I suppose.

4) turbocharge it.

Ok two more questions now lol,

2, where can i get decent paint from to do it myself,
will it be a case of just carefully painting it on? or will i have to strip it down and paint them that way?

4, how ? lol ,

fork legs look good black, ben650 did his black and they look great, bin the lowers flog the fixing kit on ebay and get a belly pan. leave engine alone,
breakers for a tank, try and get the right colour spraying costs loads.

Paints4U are a good paint supplier IMO, though I don't know if they can do bike paints. To be honest, I wouldn't paint it myself if I was you. Repair and prep, I'd do. But colourmatching's tricky. Getting a good finish with paint from a can is actually not hard, but clearcoating it is- 2K is what you want but iy's poisonous, so spraying it in the shed isn't so clever, and nothing else I've tried is very good. Singlepack is alright, that's what I did the bike in, but it's a constant job keeping it looking nice and every time you take out fogging or a scratch, you have less clearcoat. So mine looks like rubbish most of the time.

get the lower for legs powder coated. i sprayed mine then laquered them. they turned out ok but chip rather easily. i use it in all weather conditions and they have yet to start corroding again which is a good sign. kwak is right, get a belly pan. they look good on the pointys. in terms of the tank, you will be looking at around £300 for a new tank. so i would say try finding one on ebay. egine wise, cant really do huge amounts to improve it taking into the amount which you are considering on spending on it. woudlnt be worth it. just air filter, ecu program, full exhaust, then sort out other parts like suspension, gear change problems (if you get them, the false neutrals, p1ss me right off).

I did the lower legs on my hornet black, took them off sanded then down with wet and dry with plenty of water you realy have to make sure you get all the old laquer off which should be to much of a problem with suzuki forks are its not very thick then i did a couple of coats of primer followed by about four coats of black then i did a couple of coats of laquer. All paint in aerosol form from halfrauds and it lasted well and still looks good when i sold the bike a yr later.
Depends on the damage to the tank realy doesnt it and how much the metal is creased as to how good a repair can be.

Exclamation Re: MODS/Paint/ . . . an almost fixed bike

I have really been Uming and AHing about this for the last day or so.
i think im going to go with the lowers to be honest i just dont like seeing the the internals of the engine, i ran the bike withought the cracked fairing for abou three days but it just looked unfinished to me so i put the damaged lowers back on,

im going to leave the engine well alone, but probably invest in the ohlins Springs in the forks, i would love the GSXR front end i really would, but realisticly i cant afford the 1000 Queens heads that i was quoted for the entire front end,

As for the tank i think it makes my bike look like a peice of whats commonly reffered to as S**t.
just imagine it looking a little rusty now lol,

Ive been told to FILL IT, Replace it, put a sticker over it ( which i did but it came off )
What should i do? anyone want to do it for me? lol,

EDIT: also i was thinking of doing the the black wire mesh in the fairing gaps, anyone know where to get itand howmuch it is?? also how the hell would i fix it on lol,
