Am thinking of getting a Almax Series IV chain and squire lock but have a couple of questions about how you lock your bikes up.
Essentially I want to know if you lock the bike up through the frame or back wheel? Now I am complete noob here, but if you use the back wheel what stops the thieving scrots from just unbolting the rear wheel and taking the rest? The reason I am asking is because some people on other forums have mentioned that the Almax 4 will not fit through their frames whereas the Almax III will. Admittedly they were not talking about the SV650 so this may not relate, but if you could share your experiences with me it would be appreciated. Jon PS - would you recommend a 1.5m chain or 2m for an extra 30 squid?

I just use a Oxford Alarmed Disk lock on the rear.
Reason for the rear rather than front is that its more of a pain to lift the back and wheel a bike on the front wheel than the rear due to the fact that the front will either be loose, or steering locked. Mind you, this is a bike that is garaged over-night and the disk-lock is for when parked in London Bike bays. I have been known to also use my Abus Granite D-Lock when leaving the bike in unknown areas over night. Chains are big n bulky and heavy.

My Almax is through the back wheel but my other chain is through the frame. Both are looped through ground anchor.

I use a Xena Disc lock alarm, Oxford Monster lock, Oxford Barrier Chain, Another thinner oxford lock through the rear sprocket and wheel. And finally a 3 Meter Oxford bike safe lock that goes through the front and back wheel. Oh and it's in a shed with an alarm, someone would have fun taking my baby!!! Plus i have an air pistol and a 9 inch army knife at my bedside. Goodluck i say

I lock mine through the handy hole in the swingarm, not an option for the SV though.
2m of chain would give you more options, how about using rope or something to work out how to lock it up and measure what you've used? Locking through either wheel is not ideal but most bikes are so tightly packaged getting a chain through the frame is difficult or impossible. |

Good idea re the rope, unforunately I dont pick the bike up until Saturday and I want the lock before then!
So does anyone think that the Almax IV will go through the frame?

To be honest, I think you'll have trouble locking through the frame, especially if you're trying to lock it down to an anchor as well.
I always locked mine through the front wheel but it's not ideal. Another poster on here had her bike nicked by having the front wheel removed, hence me locking mine through the swingarm. |

Thru the back wheel and join each side of the chain over the seat, if that makes sense. Otherwise you may end up riding off with the chain wrapping itself round the swingarm as you give it more and more revs cause it won't go forwards
