Carbon Can Co. Fitted... Feedback

Hello Folks,

We fitted a Carbon Can Co oval carbon silencer to the SV650 a day or two ago. The results are here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3teJE-G8m34

The can itself was a really easy fit. It didn't come with instructions But a quick troll on these forums told me to cut the original exhaust off at 45mm from the weld. That worked perfectly (I can heartily recommend using a reciprocating saw here. Mine went through dead-straight and with little effort, without removing the pipes).

Onto the questions...

1. Can anyone tell me where it's supposed to be hiding its removable baffle please? I can't find anything along those lines...

2. Its supposedly road legal. Does this mean it ought to be CE marked (I am going on heresay from a bike shop here)? I was expecting to have something we can point at when it gets MoT'd so they can nod and say "lovely thank you".

3. Finally, there's a small (6"?) tube inside the outlet of the exhaust which is welded in place, but it doesn't seal the circumference of the outlet, its slightly offset downwards and only welded at that bottom point. That's a pretty rubbish description, but hopefully if someone else has the can they can tell me if that sounds right. My concern is that it sounds a bit raspy compared to what I was expecting. I suspect that if it sealed the outlet it would sound more thumpy...

Anyway, the proof is in the pudding, so have a listen and a look and tell me whether you think this sounds right...

The tube in the end is the baffle, from the sounds of it, it's increasingly common for these to be spot welded in (Remus have always done it, I think for TUV approval). Usually quite easy to break the weld, whack. But yep, a road legal can should have the BSAU or E mark on it.

unless something changed in the company mine has a BS number on it which makes it road legal.

Nice video, like the thunbs up! I have roughly the same can only stainless steel. The tube you describe is the baffle, and can be drilled out at the rivet, but I have left mine in. My can sounds ace, its kind of rumbly but spluttery a bit.

I have a CCC stainless oval on mine.

I belive the welded tube you observe is only welded to a collar, this collar is then rivetted to the 'outer' of the main can. Drill the rivett out and you should be able to remove the baffle.

I've not removed mine yet. I'm worried it will be too loud (I know a lot of poeple don't care or argue it's safter) and that it'll lean the fueling out causing damage to the engine. That all said I might have a play at some point and would like to take it somewhere (the place of one of the peeps on here) to get it mapped properly at some point and whilst there get the AF mixture checked for in baffless mode.

Markings - I'm pretty certain that the required markings are on the end around the outlet.

CCC cans with the baffle out are pretty damn loud, especially the smaller round ones... I couldn't live with one, I know that much.

There is indeed a BS number on there... I am "BS AU 193A 1990..." That's encouraging for the MoT, not quite sure how I missed that ...eejit boy.

I think you'll find the part numbers are the markings you need. Remember now we're all part of the United States of Europe it's an E mark that you need not a good old fashioned BSI or anything like that.

Rivet. Should be on the bottom of the outlet pipe.

after hearing a CCC can and mine (Scorp) i can safely say that ill definitely go for a CCC Can next time. They sound awesome and are much cheaper! Is the build quality up to scratch with other makers?

I must say there were a few sharp edges on the CCC 'zorst which I filed down. I also got 3 carbon fibre splinters fitting it to the bike. Otherwise it looks like its really well put together.

I'll try and remember to post some thoughts on it after its been in use for a bit. A few wet days and some miles will help reveal how well its really built.
