Paperwork

I did something very silly on the roads a few days ago, but didnt get any paperwork. I got a proper b*llocking, which I fully deserved but I think the copper was in a big rush to get somewhere.

We're talking straight to court stuff here, has this happened to any of you and if so did you get paperwork by the side of the road or through the mail. I fully accept responsiblity for what I did it just the waiting thats get me now.

it'll depend precisly on what the policeman said to you, if he cautioned you, then it I believe they have 6 months to send the paperwork through to you...

I definatley wasn't cautioned, would this have to happen for the more serious offences? I cant tell from the website. I always thought that NIP's were only used for more minor offences such as a standard speeding offence. I think it might be time to get a solicitor on the case. He definatley said that I would be prosecuted though, I think this counts as a verbal NIP.

They have to say something very explicit like "you may be prosecuted for this offence" and be cautioned (like the movies) I believe.

Maybe I should touch wood here as I've never been sited here in this country. But in the US if you've done something other than a warning you at least have to sign something. In the US you are not signing as an admission of guilt but just to say you have been accused. If you didn't sign anything, how can they say you even met? Please let us know though and all the best!

OK I think if he's said that to you, then they have 6 months to get paperwork to you for what they are going to prosecute you for...

But I also thought you had to be cautioned at the same time.

I dont really know, personally I wouldnt worry about it till you have something in your hand offical like that tells you what and why you are being done for.

im pretty sure you dont have to be cautioned, they give you what i think is termed a verbal notification of intent to prosecute, i didnt get any paperwork at all , a bit surreal really, i was on the isle of man, but they pretty much follow the same procedures as here ( it was a mainland uk copper that did me) my cop was pretty clear in setting out what was going to happen, dont know about yours, but getting no paperwork made it sort of feel a little like maybe it didnt happen, or id get off with it, but sure enough, 2 days before the 6mth deadline to lay papers, package drops on the mat with a court date.
no point stressing until you hear something, you may be really really lucky !!!

but if its as serious as you say, make sure you go to "pepipoo" and get some advice.

That's exactly what the cop said to me when I removed the engine of a VW Polo from it's moutings by applying a BMW K100RS to it at 60 mph in Putney.

That was 15 years ago and nothing heard so far... Either way you can't do anything about it and it's Rule #2 of life that you don't worry about outcomes you can't affect.

For obvious reasons i cant say to much this is a public forum and I havn't been to court, but there was talk of vehicle seziures at the scene for dangerous driving to give you an idea. Whatever happens the bike is going up for sale and i'm going to get a car agian. But I think he was following for a while, luckly all in a national speed limit. I was having a bad day and was looking where i was going, not the mirrors ( i sure many have done it before). There were no blind overtakes or anything but plenty or overtaking the speeds are not going to go well at all.

Trying not to worry, TBH i think the writing is on the wall on this one but hey my fault so can't really blame anyone else.

Nemo, what were you charged with in the end? What happened to your insurance.

For anyone else, if you ride quick think about it. Its a very bad feeling when you see the lights and know your in real trouble.
