Has anyone had one? I really fancy a 325- but is this likely to be a money pit?
Thanks Rob. |

Missus had a 316 e30. Was lovely, little go kart like handling, suprising amount of go from the 1.6 (well, up to 80 anyway). Not terribly refined and the inside looks quite dated now (I think the outside shape is a classic tho). Had 130,000 when she got it and she put another 20K on with no problems whatsoever, it got an oil change every 5K and that was it. She even half filled it with diesel and then drove it, after siphoning the tank and a spell on super unleaded it was fine with no apparent ill effects.
That car was pretty much the sole reason I'm now convinced to only buy german and never ever buy a french car ever again ![]() EDIT: Get a non-chav one, the bigger engine variants (ie. the 325) seemed particularly vulnerable to the neon underlight brigade ![]() |

E36's are better, but E30's are still good cars, but not many 'fit' ones still available...
An E36 318is Coupe with 107,000 went on eBay the other day for £1200, I know because I was watching it, but I bought a 'boring' Passat locally now ![]() ![]() |

I have a 1988 325i Touring - its a fantastic car and my second E30.
They tend to be reliable - watched for cracked heads or recent head gasket work - people think its the gasket - get it changed and the symptoms remain so try and punt the car on. If its a saloon you are looking at check inside the boot behind the side carpets - they are known to rot the inner wheel arches whilst looking respectable from the outside! Scuttle (under the wipers) and the sunroofs are known rust traps too. Dont let all this put you off though, there are plenty of solid ones out there ![]() ![]() Mine has done 172,000 miles and runs like a dream, I know of many that have over 200,000 miles on the original running gear! I think they are a great looking car - after 12 years of changing cars every 10-12 months this is the longest I have ever owned one car!! 18 months on and I still love it ![]() MPG you will average 26 in a 325i - not great obviously, but I only have an 8 mile commute and use the bike too so dont care! ![]() Oh and lowering is a must as the 80's was still in the stilt suspension era! Mine is lowered 40mm all round which you probably wouldnt notice if I hadnt mentioned it - the wheels are MIM 1900 15" - a period wheel for the car. Here is my baby - not bad for 20 years old is she ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

You can always trust the org for a wealth of info
![]() I really want an ix though - but there is barely any in the country (it was a 4x4 version with 2 LSDs ![]() However there's an immaculate c2 alpina 2.7 in the carpark at work. That thing pushes out 210hp! *drool* ![]() |

I quite like the look of a 190e too. Long live the 80s!
