Default Suspension issue this morning

I was going around a left hand corner just before I got to work, so the bike was warm and so were tires. I took the corner at about 50 and acelerated quite hard out of it in 3rd. The road was still a little bit wet from the morning due but otherwise it is a newly laid road and very smooth and sticky.

So, the problem, the rear was very twitchy, like it was bouncing up and down under accelleration. Does this meen the rear shock is shot? or I was reaching the limmit of its capabilities? My K3 has done about 8000 miles.

Thanks for any help

p.s the front felt fine

Dont be fooled by newly laid roads. People seem to think that they are uber sticky when in fact they are more slippy for about 1-2 months. Due to the fact that oil is used in the laying process (fnar fnar)
If that isnt the case then yes i'd say the shock was on its way out.... or atleast the seals.

I run mine on 33 front 36 rear which is the standard pressures for a 650.

I always check newly fitted tyres once I've scrubbed them in, lots of times I've found that the garage havent inflated them to the correct pressures.

Thats whats I'd be checking first, before I started looking at anything else.

I wouldn't base my tyre/suspension set up on what the bike did on one particular bend this morning. If it is ok on other roads perhaps there was some oil on the offending bend,or you opened the throttle too quick?

What he said. I even had my tyre fitter ask, "What pressure do you want in this tyre?", I told him '36 PSI'. Even in the very short (5 mins) test ride I noticed it was handling a bit odd and not just the usual "my god, this new tyre turns in quick, I'd forgotten what it's like!" feeling. I check the pressure myself, sure enough, it's a shade over 30.

ok, will check the psi and post how off it is, if that is the problem.

Im looking at sorting the suspension soon anyway so if it is the shock then its not that much of an issue.

thanks

If the road had only been resurfaced 4 months ago and is lightly trafficked, i would say that is your problem. When a new road surface is laid it needs a fair bit of traffic to wear some of the surface bitumen off to expose the aggrgate within the surface, this provides the grip. In our county there is a policy of erecting slippery road signs on all newly surfaced stretches of road.
