Default Speedo drives

Right ive found out everything else i need for a front end conversion, all i need to know now is how to reliably take the speedo drive from somewhere!

-Ive been thinking could it fit on the rear axle as the standard unit with a wire extension. As i recal from my last tyre change there are a couple of spacers... Anyone know if this would fit?

-2nd option is putting things on the fro disk but from what i understand i need 8 pickups and most discs i looked at have 9 floating disc mount things so that might be a hard one to go for.

-3rd mount the Magnets and pickup on the rear sprockets, i think this would possible be the best way in that itll be relativly easy to mount the 8 magnets, but i think the actual pickup would be more difficult

Anyother ideas or ideas on how i might go about fitting any of these or any semi official shops that do this then please let me know.

Though after saying all this im not sure if i should make the SV a sports bike or just get a 1000... Aslo voice your oppinion on this if you like (only problem is that my bike has pretty high miles for its age (21k in 2 years) so i might not get much for it .

Cheers

Is yours a curvy then? Northwind did the same mod, putting the speedo sender on the rear axle.

Pointy rear axle is too big, it won't fit. There's other tricks. Ask Stu if he ever made his work with the Veypor sensor, he hasn't beaten me up for suggesting it so I think it probably does. It definately works on the curvy but I can't say for sure it works on the pointy.

GSXR sensor works too, as would any similiar sensor. The GSXRs run off the front sprocket, but the sensor works in exactly the same way. Doesn't even need magnets, they can detect any buildup of ferrous metal A great trick I saw on SV Rider used the rear disc bolts, with 4 steel bolts and one titanium one- 4 pulses per rotation.

There was a guy on SV Rider that sold a magnet kit, but he seems to have vanished.

I think you need 4 magnets not 8, by the way.

I'm not 100% on the pointy setup, but the curvy is definately 4 magnets.

yep deffo 4 magnets for the curvey, as far as ive heard its 4 for the pointy, unless they are using the other 4 in reverse polarity to make the sensor work better as if it does not already.
