Ello all,
Been ages since i was last on here. I dunno if i posted but about 2months ago i got myself an SV650 (99 curvy model, Yellow) It was an awsome bike, up until about a month ago a car pulled out on us. Took me over the bonnet (receiving a very deep cut to my knee, and a busted ankle), also taking the bike down the road (wiping it out, making it written off) ![]() Anyway things have got better since, i got my SV back the other day from the garage. Well happy to see it again, but very sad to see it busted! I say busted but the thing that made it written off was the forks (twisted) and the frame (25mm bent out) The rest of the bike (apart from the cracks in the front fairing) is fine, as i say the fronts cracked, both rearsets snapped, but the whole of the rear/swingarm/wheels/tank is perfect! Now i dunno what to do, Option 1:- Go ahead and rebuild it. Get a new frame, forks and just replace the engine/swingarm/wheels etc. Use the comp money (fingers crossed) and make a great bike out of it! Or Option 2:- Strip it. Sell all the parts separate, the engine (done around 16000miles), the tank (perfect, not a scratch), wheels, braided lines, swingarm etc etc. Then save that money, wait for the compensation money (fingers crossed) and buy another bike. Im just after peoples opinions on what they would do, has anybody been in my situation? What did you do? How easy is it to get parts? Is it an easy bike to repair? Thanks to all! ![]() (Btw, theres no rush. Ive gotta wait for the insurance to be sorted out before i have any money at all, to start anything! My bike now ok has two wheels, but its also got two pedals too ![]() ![]() |

I'm not too sure how easy it is to bend frames back into place. However I know it can be done. But as for tolerances and cost for a start off I wouldnt like to hazard a guess? Forks are on fleabay quite often and as are most parts to be honest. Also there are plenty of breakers around.
I personally would sell what there is left of the bike for spares and put it towards a new bike. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! ![]() |

Option 1 if you're good with the spanners and have a garage to work in. Building a special in the winter outside or in a draughty shed will mean it won't get done.
Option 2 won't net you much money, but more than what you'd get for the wreck. |

How were you insured? If you are going to claim against someone I belive the work must be done in a garage, which from the damage you have described will almost definatley make it a right off. If your fully comp the insurance and the insurance pays out I belive that the bike will belong to them.
If none of these apply then getting a new(well second hand) frame might be cheaper than getting the old one fixed, but I would probaly split the bits and start again. |

ive got a straight frame if you want it. no forks tho. pm for more details, if i was you i wouldnt bother trying to brake it for parts cause that what started doing 6 months and stil have loads of bits left.

![]() Been looking everywhere (eBay) for a frame, theres loads of parts forsale (but no frame ![]() Been to have a look at the bike today, i think the forks will be repairable! My mate has had a look at them, and he thinks there not 'bent' as such, but they have tweaked in the clamp etc! Gonna get them out at weekend and see, but as i say the frame is the more important thing. Thats been checked proper, and its 25mm out ![]() PM me the details on the frame, and how much your after for it! Depends on where you are, dont fancy paying p+p for it ![]() Cheers matey! (Btw, insurance wise. They have put a value on the bike etc, so meanwhile its mine and can do anything to it etc! But when the third party gets blamed, the insurance pays out (for the bike, and comp)) |
