Hi
I just want to confirm that to change the Reg/Rec on the K3 (2003) SV650 you need to remove, or raise the fuel tank - was looking in the haynes manual that has just arrived, but I know the older models reg/rec is under the seat, so just wanted to confirm that I need to do this. ![]() Don't want to take the bike apart if there is a simpler way to do it. Cheers Andy |

Good morning.
Yes, you will have to raise the tank to access it. Bloody daft place to put it if you ask me, they're supposed to be somewhere where air can flow over them to keep them cool. I hardly think that sticking them virtually on top of the motor is the coolest place on the bike eh! Yes it was a somewhat daffy question, for unless you're built like a Pixie you've no chance of getting to it without lifting the tank first. ![]() On the other hand, as Japs are so small, maybe they send a whole team in to fit them after the bike has been assembled. ![]() Cheers. Thanks for the advice - I changed it yesterday - bloody fiddly trying to get it out, but managed it and replaced - hoping that this will sort out my charging problems - otherwise it'll be the alternator stator.......(hopefully not though)

Good morning.
Good show, I hope it sorts it. If not have a trawl through the post entitled 'What should a good battery voltage be' currently on page two. It contains all the info needed to check out the stator & the wiring etc. Cheers. |

Thanks for the checking, the installation was successful at the weekend, if a little fiddly - especially as the previous owner had fitted a ScottOiler which blocks in the tank prop - instead I relied on a friend to hold up the tank as I removed the airbox and old reg/rec - except that he then dropped tank on my head, which hurt - a lot.
Anyway after about 60 miles with some stops to turn off and on bike, appears to work ok. Although did misfire on start up at the petrol station after 4 miles from starting, but I did have to rev it a bit to stop the engine dieing, so I just think the very full fuel tank, maybe slightly less condition battery, and maybe too much fuel in engine from choking could have caused this. |
