I don't think they're any hotter than a normal bulb. Chris is the sort of chap that would know that though.

Is it a standard lamp? It'll be fine if it is, they generally run cooler than a halogen (though some people have reported problems with the front plastic overheating if they let the headlight get really dirty. I was just amazed that anyone who's spend time and money on a headlight upgrade would then let it get that dirty)

I've had mine in for I think a couple of years now, it's out just now as my bike's already a bit cheeky come MOT time and I don't want to take the mick too much, but I've never had any issues whatsoever with it. (I only run one HID and one halogen, my LHS headlight is slightly broken and while I can adjust it right with halogens, I can't with the HID). I've ridden along behind police cars etc without any issues, got stopped for a "random safety check" and they never mentioned it (though they were too busy messing up a tyre depth check and getting confused by my Strada rear) And completely reliable too, 15000 miles? Though not all lit up of course.

The most important thing is aim- if you aim these badly, they're outright dangerous, no responsible rider should be riding around with a glarey headlight. Also colour choice- if you fit a daft purple one, it'll make less visible light and it'll attract the law too.

But, yeah. Amazing things. Very very pleased with mine, I'm not a good night rider so I'll take any support I can get, riding with just the nightbreakers at night now is pretty nasty.

Sorry if already said they are MOT failures due to them shinng a different pattern or something as the halogen reflectors havent ben designed to wor with them,

Hasnt stopped me puttin them in my car tho excelent things! makes you and others safer as they do just illuminate every thing reflective

Yeah, dead easy. I did set mine on fire at one point, but not badly Kits vary but mine was simple enough. Writeup here:

The pics are all broken but you can still find them here:

Sorting the aim to my satisfaction took ages mind. That's not hard at all, just a bit irritating.

the beam pattern on mine is almost the same as standard halys.. there is a 'slight' blob in the centre but its very slight.. i have the hids4u kit.. i have seen some really bad chinese rubbish and the beam pattern is crap its just big blobs...

another thing is it takes a good twist with the screwdriver to get them to the correct angle.. for some reason mine were way off to the right..

Watch out for the cheepo xeon/halogen. ie One xeon bulb for normal beam and one halogen for high beam. The kit i have is bi-xeon, so its one xeon bulb and it moves the unit back/forwards to make the high beam, unfortunatly that system requires a relay kit to be installed.

Not sure how it is beam pattern is on curvey/pointy headlights, ive got it on my 7R and seems to be clean, just need to get them adjusted a little.
