The spacer was above the spring (pre emulator), its now below the spring.

Couldn't see a good reason why it wouldn't work the other way round. Seems to.

So what is holding the emulator in position?

Lol. Think about where the fluid pressure is acting and what that will do.

You've got £40 worth of pretty brass fork oil shaker...

Have you not noticed the complete absence of any comp damping now the holes are (presumably) massive and the emulator doing nowt?

Doh! Strangely it seemed better.
Didn't think that through properly.
Better have another go.

Top tip for damper rod bolts. You can get a 12v impact wrench/gun for about £20 on flea bay with crocodile clip connectors for putting straight on a battery. Works a treat

just for the records, on one of my valves, the rebound washer spring had not any preload, so that the washer did not really seat against the top, i just stretched the spring tll the washer was just protuding the lower body

Why didn't you just wind in the adjuster to take up any slack first? Then add 2 1/2 turns as described?

Just one note to the "pretty oil shaker" if the spacer is still above the emulator it should still work as the emulator is still forced onto position ontop of the damper rod, unless I've read this wrong. The only cause for concern is the width of the spacer material isn't to small and cuts into the emulator. The spring ontop will still compress the spacer down, which in turn pushes down on the emulator I would have thought. If he put the spacer between the emulator and rod then you'd have a very pretty oil shaker.

Ow boll&@£x ,did just read the "WHOLE" post again the spacer is too big to sit on the emulator and goes over it. Teach me to only read the last page.

Grant66 described that the spacer was actually bigger than the outer diameter of the emulator and so did not restrain it.

No point in ar$ing around with the position of these parts, best to fit them as they were intended.
