I hope you gave him a ticket Pete. He's parked on a yellow line and also that road behind Kendals is so narrow that the car must have caused an obstruction

In my humble opinion, i love football, greatest game on the planet, but all sports stars get paid too much, but they only get paid what someone is prepared to pay them.
If any of us was in that position, we wouldnt turn it down would we? We might be more responsible with the money but still accept it when offered. |

Then, of course, with my large wages, I'd buy them a new arm, with built-in gadgets and stuff stuff is only worth what you'll pay for it. Apprently, back in olden times, spain had mined so much gold from the south american areas that the value of gold plummetted, forcing the then king of spain to declare himself bankrupt. Twice. Because people didnt need / wouldnt pay so much for a metal that was quite abundant and avaliable to them at that time. Value works both ways Last edited by Alpinestarhero; 08-04-10 at 07:27 AM. |

Thing is, footballers used to get paid an okay wage, something that we would describe as acceptable (or some of us still too much for kicking a bag of air about) but you get the jist, players were paid less than they are now.
Players are paid so much now because that teams chairman/owner feels that player will be an asset to his/her club, and will pay the money to compete with others. Money has gone up and up over the years because it's all an auction really. It's nothing to do with the player how much he actually gets in his pocket, yes he may make demands of silly money, but it is down to the guy who draws up the contract and agrees to it. |

Its all simple really, supply and demand. Whilst football remains soooooo popular and fans are still paying silly amounts per game, TV rights are still high etc..... the wages will continue to rise.
At the end of the day, the clubs make good money, but then get into debt with massive wage bills and transfer fees. They have to pay the amounts they do as if the player is good enough, someone else will pay it. Its all a spiralling mess and just gets worse and worse. Personally, I think they should have some form of financial capping worldwide on wage budgets and transfer fees. But won't ever happen.
