Michelin PR2 or PR3

Hi

What I need to know if what mileage people are getting out of PR3's , I know PR2's offer great mileage

As I commute always use ST tyres on Triumph st

Get approx 7-8 k out of Avon Storms & Pirelli Angels ST's

Was going to try PR2 or PR3 next time as need tyres soon

There is a lot of good info re good mileage out of PR2's but appears to be little about PR3's

Any one who has used PR3's would appreciate a heads up esp re mileage

Not sure people have had them long enough to provide a full life report on the PR3s.
I had the PR2s and liked them, got the PR3s now, put nearly 4K onto them and showing no real signs of wearing or squaring.

No way am I paying 270 quid for PR3 's don't care how good there are ...

Thinking either PR2 for 240 fitted or original Pilot Road for 189 fitted

To be honest this side of Christmas could well try the Pilot Road for 189 quid fitted

Any one used the original pilot road's ?

Guy I spoke to Central Wheel said that they are good , offer at least as much mileage as the new P2/3 but not as much grip , but more than enough for the road

Since 90% of miles onTriumph is a commute , think the Pilot Road could be worth a try

I have no facts to back this up so I might be talking pish. But I think the original Pilot Road's are just a single compound all over. Where-as the Pilot Road 2CT is exactly the end of the name, 2 compound tyre. Soft on the outside and hard in the middle.

I would go with the theory the older the tyre the less grip it will offer overall. I would guess that the mileage might be about the same if it's not doing much bend work. After-all they all (PR1, 2 and 3) run a similar compound in the middle of the tyre.

Put PR3s on my Street Triple straight after GM, replacing Qualifiers which I hated with a vengeance - I dont ride hard enough for those to work. They've done just under 3000 miles and look pleasantly unworn.
If you like that squirrelly-sphincter sensation of wet and greasy roads, fit the longest-lasting / cheapest you can find.
If not. it's PR3 all the way until something better is produced.

200 mile in since fitted on Tuesday

The original pilot roads are very good , have used in some horrible weather and absolutely fine

Main difference between these and more modern ST tyres I've used are the original Pilot Roads have a much rounder profile , so not as fast steering / turnin

Bargain for the price , hope they last the norm 8k

Feel similar to Metz z6's

I have PR3's, but I don't do the kind of mileage you do, so for as often as I change the tyres the extra price is negligible, it's an extra 23 quid a year or something like that.

I don't believe the PR3's will be £70 quid better than the Pilot Road. For a person that does your kind of miles, I think you've done the right thing.

The PR1's lasted 8100 miles before nailed again as down to 1.5mm changed

have pushed the boat out and gone for pr2's

I have recently got PR's (original) fitted to the SV. So far can't fault them at all, even in damp/slippy conditions still being run in they have been great. Plenty of feedback and grip in all conditions.

Nothing wrong with PR1's really liked them and for the price can't be beaten

The PR2's are a lot grippier as they have softer edges, just scrubbed them in on the sprint and pegs down no problem , just hope they last well
