Hello again Org of all knowledge.
I've been looking through the forums for information as in the future i'm hoping to tune my SV a little and do some track days. I already have a fuel slip on can to fit and was hoping to get a free flowing air filter in the future. Now i understand if i fit a new filter I should get a power commander and dyno the bike to get it set up correctly. However I have also seen a plug in TRE mod (allows an increase in torque in 2nd and 3rd) and wondered if that would have an additional benefit to a power commander or if the power commander alone would be able to sort everything. Cheers in advance. |

do you have a pointy or curvy model ? as I think the 4 degree off set woodrough key is not for the pointy.
only the curvy models have it, something to do with the FI ecu I think. as for the rest, I did the tre on My K3 Pointy and found a little differace on Hard accelleration. hth's

I have a nice new pointy. The thing I have found is one of these http://www.jhsracing.co.uk/engine_mgmt.htmThe nikko G pack thing. I think It lifts a restriction in 2nd and 3rd gear on SV's.

That sounds like the TRE mod that you can do for about 15 pence in parts... and about 1/2 hour in time.
also do the TPS mod... all can be found here

Ah see. I'll have a good look through. I was looking at getting plug in boxes though as they can be removed when returning a bike to standard when its trade in time.
Am i right in thinking with a power commander if i get a new filter and my new can it can be mapped properly to give me a few more horsies and even smoother mid range! |

as far i know the general consensus is that a g-pack is a waste of money. you can do the same thing to bike for a lot less and a little bit of time by doing what is refered to as the tre mod. Whether or not you want to do this is up to you, some find it does nothing, others swear it has miraculous effects on smoothing power delivery. Considering that the reason the timing was retarded in the first place was to make it easier to ride when using small amounts of throtal im not sure if its really a good idea.
As for a power comander this is basicly a programable ecu meaning that you can tell it how much fuel to inject across the rev range to make it more powerfull. As you increase the air flow your are able to burn more fuel to give more power. It is also possible to do a simpler version of this to a suzuki by using a yoshi box. They plug into your existing ecu and can be used to change the timing supposedly giving you more power, but generally at the expense of fuel economy. this is how i believe it is, i may be wrong so wait for someone else to clarify. |

dont bother with a tre, they are a waste of money. a power commander and a couple of hours setup will be much much better.

ah see, excellent. Well it's definitely going in the list for future mods. I'll pencil it in for just after the upgraded fork springs. I plan to keep the bike for 3 years and hope to continually evolve it as i get used to the power.

For an SV, a Power Commander is a bit over the top... Yes it is very flexible, but go to a local specialist and have a chat, they can probably recommend a filter/exhaust set up, and do a remap for a lot less than a PC....
Most will have access to a "Yoshi" box that can reset your mapping on the existing ECU. Just find one with a bit of experience. |
