Due to my "slightly darker than white" complexion, I was not lucky enough to be conscripted into PW's army...
But, I spent many-a-holiday (summer and winter) in the Outeniqua mountains training and instructing at Veld &Vlei Hell on earth to any 16yr-old snot-nosed kid

I went in to the recruitment centre, said I wanted to join the medical team and get sponsorship through med school as a doctor. The officer behind the desk said
"Just one minute young lady, I'll show you a video to give you an idea of the role"
I was sat down in front of the TV and a very nice video about being a nurse in the navy came on I left at that point.

My father is ex-SAS , now rides a Pan-Am.

An ex-girlfriend of mine joined the South african Air Force, she wanted to fly planes. Was promised she could as they had a quota to fill for female pilots. Passed flight medical and then waited in paper pushing job for 3 years until she got hacked off and left. She was tall, blonde and quite attractive and kept on being told that girlies don't fly planes.

She's a paramedic in Johannesburg now.

Was in the ACF
Tried to join the RAF as aircrew, but I failed the medical (hayfever).
On reflection I wished I'd joined the army straight out of school.

I was in the scouts, there was some trouble during a cake sale and I was thrown out for eating a brownie.
