Gave up on the centre stand for now, having Scottoiler fitted this Sat instead. Will need some sort of a stand sooner or later for chain tension though.

Why? You set the chain tension on the sidestand.

Again, I didn't know this was possible but you learn every day. Mind you the dealer told me so. And if dealers want to make money out of beginners, who know very little, then who is to stop them? (I suppose forums like this). So I will never need a centre stand or a paddock one?!!!

Depends what level of maintenence you want to do.
Personally I have access to front + rear paddock stands, an abba stand, many car jacks, a big bar in the ceilling. Pile of bricks. etc etc. But really if you're going to pay someone else to do work you don't need anything.

Check chain tension regularly, just incase- if it's well maintained (cleaned and lubed regularly) it'll probably be ok but it's always worth checking.
Yeah, I'm in Histon, not far from you! |

Yes you do. Depending on maintenence. But as I said before you are supposed to check the chain tension with the bike on the side-stand!
