Or you could share a lift with the other forum mountain biker that lives about three miles away from you and split the costs....

Yeah Rob. But your penis in a box has scarred me for life!
We should totally do that soon! After Easter I guess as I'm up at cadwell on a track day on Saturday!
Where abouts in the peaks do you do G?

Helmets a helmet to be honest, they are all made of the same stuff. I prefer trail ones that give more protection to the rear of your head... Other than the name, ventilation and quality/comfort of the internal fitting are really different. Get something that fits and is comfortable.

Most of my peaks riding is around Edale, Mamtor, Ladybower, cutgate. Awesome climbs, descents and Views... Just love being in the middle of nowhere with a ridiculous view and a mega descent in front of you. If you enjoy it you'll not mind driving anywhere to get your next fix... Or you might be puking at the top of the first climb and vow never to do it again, but we can see

Aye, the crash that wrote off my old Fox Flux left a massive dent at the base of the helmet at the back, and I still got hit hard enough to wipe me out... my old helmet didn't have any protection at all there so that would have been even less fun if I'd been wearing it instead. More coverage = good.

Some probably do offer more protection than others but how would you know? The CE test for pushbike lids is really antiquated and easy to pass. So it ends up being like motorbike lids, you buy the one that fits best, weighs least, has the best features, at the right price- or alternatively the one that you think looks fastest.

Right, I'm bored and tired, time for pictures-of-bikes!

Someone told me I've got a fetish for black-and-white-and-red-all-over bikes... It's not intentional, I bought these all because they were well priced not because I liked the colour!

But I must admit these 2 do make a lovely couple...

I got this thing at the end of last year and tbh I've barely used it yet- been putting in the miles instead of the push-ups. It's mint though, should get more use now the uplift season is on (and raced at fort william again later in the year. I was mucking about trying to build a good dh bike on the cheap but CRC stuck these frames in their sale for £700- which was £1500 pounds off! So I thought, sod it- wasted enough time doing it wrong. I will never, never do it justice though! Poor thing, a brilliant bike ridden by a knobber.

This un's looking a bit tired now, covered in scrapes and the dirt doesn't come off, but it's still the best bike I've ever ridden, by a mile... Bloody brilliant thing. We're off to the Alps come August.

And lastly... New job meant a payrise (and a bit of job security too) so I treated meself to a cyclocross bike! Not really sure why but hey. It's horrible offroad, but in a fairly funny way, but it mostly gets used on tarmac. £400, this was, in the Halfords sale which is a bit mad considering how much a set of 105 levers costs. Road biking's crap obviously but I'm supposed to be getting fitter and popping out for a wee 20-mile blast on this thing is way better than the gym.

(yes it has mtb flats on it- clipless pedals don't mix well with my wrecked leg, but also I like just jumping on my bikes without changing shoes etc. I know it's weird but it's not a race)

Oh and this one is still going strong... Not sure it's a keeper though but it does the job, and weighs as much as a wet fart.

Aye, scandium frame with carbon seatstays. I was really tempted just to split it and sell it as soon as I got it since I reckon I'd have made a decent profit on it, but glad I kept it. I ended up buying another one for a random chap on the internet!

Don't think I'll get all that into it, other than for fitness, but I do love the feeling of powering up hills on it, feels like it's got an engine in it.

No, cyclo cross requires plenty of grassy fieds, the bikes aren't really suited to MTB trails really

Still good enough for training & commuting on, especially at that price
