I quite like on one bikes... they are based just up the road from me in Rotherham so I've been in the show room a few times.

I was going to buy a whippet, I didn't want the SRAM stuff though.

When I sit on an on one the quality never feel quite up there with a main brands though.

how did you snap your RC100? i bet that was a very sad day

The RC100 was one of the earlier ones and were "a bit light" to be fair, it was my main bike at the time and pace replaced it with the first production 200.

Wasnt the same though, mine gave way at the top of the seat stays where it joined the seat tube.

Weird place to go though

Sold the replacement on unused and think the same guy has still got it now.

I went to a kestrel after that

I like my Carbon 456... It's not perfect- feels a wee bit long on the way down and a wee bit wandery on the way up. But it's strong, light, handles well, and costs buttons compared to the competition. It's got a nice bit of give in the rear end, nothing like a full suss obviously but it makes for much better control at speed- I had a really stiff Ragley before this and the back wheel had a mind of its own, it was so stiff that it had to bounce off every rock and root whereas the C456 has a little spring to it.

I've stuck a Works headset in it to make it a bit slacker- what On One call a Slackset- and I think it improved it a lot but it was still decent as standard.

So not perfect but all round it's the best hardtail I've owned, I think. The Ragley Ti I borrowed was better but then, it cost £1400 My Cotic Soul was a better allrounder probably but the C456 is better when you turn up the wick.

Yep, the 100's were known for cracking at the seat tube, think it was something to do with the square seat tube, still, would love to own one though. The RC100 and the 1990 Klein Attitude are still dream bikes that I would love to own at some point.

Thanks Northwind, just the kind of feedback I'm looking for.

Does anyone know where I can find out about various MTB events around Manchester/Peak District? My wife wants to do a half marathon but I'd rather do something on the bike (so hopefully I'll be allowed the 456 ) I dont want any competitions just a nice pedal around as we're not the fittest in the world but it'll be something to aim for.

Just picked my Boardman MTB Comp up. Dead chuffed with it, thanks Northy for the recommendation. Although I'm already looking at bits to replace haha will have to wait til next month maybe.

Anyway here it is:

I wonder if anyone can help though. I've got a lot of play on the front brake lever. The brakes don't engage until about 2cm of travel whereas tr rear is 1 cm. I'd prefer it to be about 1cm. Is there something I need to do to change it? I've got an adjustment on the lever but that just moves the starting point of the lever rather than adjusting the play.

There seems to be a bit of a gap between the pads and the caliper.

Similiar to mine , ive got the 2010 model.

The brakes on mine are unbelieveably good, they can stop my 16 stone downhill lol

Im yet to ride the thing properly. Just been messing around in the warehouse so far.

Think i've solved the front brake problem. Just took the caliper off and pressed the lever a few times to get the pads closer together. Put it back on a its loads better. Although it does seem a bit off. One pad is definately closer/slightly rubbing than the other. In fact before I took the caliper off pulling the lever would engage one pad before the other and was bending the disc slightly.
