I've been offered a Scott Addict R4 of 08 vintage, with full Dura-Ace, FSA 50mm tub wheels, integrated seat tube and a weight of around 7kg for £1k. To be honest, I think its too much bike, too soon. Probably no good for the Sportives that I'm planning on doing either. More a race bike. Any thoughts?

For a 3 year old bike I'd say it was a bit overpriced? Depends on the wheels.

Its always hard to put a used value on a bike.

Is it 9 speed Dura Ace? Very nice, but everything in Shimano right down to Tiagra will be 10 speed in 2012

Definitely more race orientated than Sportive, with those wheels.

On the other hand, you'll have something that you'll keep for a while and wont need to keep upgrading it. I dont believe theres such as thing as to much bike.

Seems reasonably priced, all I would do is switch the tubs out for Clinchers, you can always ebay the wheels if you dont want them. I'd only do this purely for being able to easily repair a flat whilst out on the road and I could never be bothered with the faff with tub glue / tape that comes with running tubs.

There wont be anything wrong with it, if its in your budget and after a test ride you like it then buy it.

Theres no reason at all that you couldnt do a sportive on it. IMHO

My LOOK will be going round some sportives next year, I'd wager thats more a race bike than the Scott is...

Fixie turned up (finally) yesterday. Wasn't expecting it to come with brakes...but it did.

Lovely ride, did about 20 miles on it and was interesting at first, but very fun. Struggled a bit (more than usual) on the hills, and knackered today but thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Just finished assembling this bad boy. Best thing about it, is its cost bugger all to put together, just had to buy a new headset, tyres, cables & a chain.

The frame was a freebie off Freecycle() and the rest of the parts come from my vast stock of parts & donor bikes.

Its really lightweight ()
