It was amazing, one of the nicest nights for cycling I've had in a long time.

Well it was a ride of two halves today, cycled to my mums, headwind all the way almost, arrived sweaty and hot.

Bloomin colder than yesterday

quick cuppa tea & a banana and returned home much much much quicker.

Must have been the shortbread

Well when I my alarm went off at 815am, my phone said it was -5 outside. So I did the only sensible thing and did a 40 mile club ride Apart from being a tad cold, it was a nice day and sunny.
I really must get some overshoes though my feet were cold!

We've discussed having a Org rideout at somepoint, so here my suggestion, doesn't require a vote (we all know what happens there), because there's only one option

July 3rd 2012 - Ride from Calais - Bolonge see TDF stage & return to Calais.

By not taking the car and riding on the otherside it won't cost the earth, the coast road from Calais is quiet

No big miles, so no one has to be super fit, it'll just be a social ride.

All peeps will need to do is be at Dover at a reasonable time to catch the ferry.

I'm pretty sure I'll be going whatever, as this is the closest the TDf has been for a while (not counting London), but I've never ridden to see it before.
Ooooh, this sounds like an excellent idea, I'd been contemplating a trip to see the stage(s) close to the English Channel ferry ports this year. Do folks think the ferries might be rather busy with others having same idea??

Its never been too bad when I've been to Calais & Dunkerque before & as we won't be taking a cars it shouldn't be a big problem.

It only gets crazy when its over here

Cool, sounds like getting a ferry wouldn't be a problem then. I've just had a look and notice that Eurotunnel allow cyclists on the chunnel. £16 for a day return. Only downside is it can't be booked online and there are 'pick up' points either side of the tunnel which appear to limit travel times.

Anyone used this before and know how it works in practice?

No, and I don't know how you get on the ferry with your bike either.

I'm often in Dover and I know some people there, who work on the tunnel and in the ferry port,so I'll ask them.

Getting the Eurostar spoils the fun as it goes to Boulogne so not much of a ride, the idea was to catch the ferry to Calais and ride to Bolougne.

But we'll see what pans out
