Not sure how much I really need the gears, I suspect I use them because they are there and as I am a bit of a kit killer, perhaps removing the components might make fiscal sense.
I made a single speed up by fitting one of these to a spare wheel & a frame I had spare

Uses the shimnao freehub, and just space it to get the correct chainline

You'll need a chaintensioner as well

I'm not brave enough to ride proper fixed wheels around town, this is my compromise. Plus I can convert it back to gears easy enough.

I had a spare 48t front chain ring to lower the gearing for round here

Yep time for a new one, my 305 is in several pieces and also flat as a pancake. I think a car ran it over before I could get back to pick it up off the road.

Think I'm going to get a another Garmin as its been much better than my Polar was. Looking at the 500 I think as it'll work with all my existing cadence sensors etc. But then I saw the 800 / 810 on wiggle...

Yep, I keep holding off buying a 500, I've seen a few on BR

I want an 810 after last years Alps trip, as I know the 500's & my 305 don't work very well in the valleys

The new 810's use more satellites (Russian ones I think) so should work better?

800 is a bit more reasonable, I dont need all the sensors as have those already so could spend the money on the maps instead, but I dont know if I'd use them much on my regular rides...

Yes, that's the other issue I have, as I don't need the maps that often, but it would come in handy for foreign trips.

I can't be bothered with cadence sensors & I don't wear my HR much, I know when its hard going

Wait til Halfrauds sell them off cheap to get the new models in stock. They were before Christmas

Open source maps can be downloaded for the Garmin and they're good. If you need a link let me know?

Have you considered the 705, it's discontinued now but new ones can be had for less than £200 with heart and cadence sensors included?
