Never seen those myself, sensible enough design I suppose... I guess the bearings end up a little smaller than a normal square taper BB maybe. I'd ask myself, if the entire world operated on screw-in BBs for so long, why is nobody else making these, there's been several new BB "standards" but as far as I recall they're all screw-in.

For square taper I just get whatever the current shimano is, even the really ropey square taper shimanos last reasonably well and the good ones lasted forever. (I just replaced 2 in my road bike and my brother's old full suss that between them had lasted 27 years and who knows how many thousands of miles) Nice and cheap from woolyhatshop. Sealed and not servicable, but cheap enough and reliable enough to be disposable.

YST have been making cheap sealed units for push bikes for the twenty years that I have been working in bike shops. It will work and it will last a while. It will keep going in a shell with a stripped thread and it will do the job. I would just fit it and forget about it until it needs replacing again in about five years.

In the mean time, build yourself a proper bike with lots of carbon, titanium and aluminium, you wont regret it and they ride really nicely. Got a nice Time trial bike where I work, a real steal for £1000!

Proper bike for £1000 wants an engine in it. Could build myself a 140bhp 1216 for that money

Is it worth putting front shocks on a bike that I've had since 1993 but haven't used since 2000?(Need to lose a few stone you see) I've pulled it out of the garage recently and had a go on it and the front end just seems a bit hard.

£1000 isn't that much...

You can spend £7500 on a bike with no engine

it'll just add weight to the bike..if you intend to go off road on tracks its fine but i guess road work probably not. I found after not riding for a while investing in a good seat was the best thing I did.

Went to Lee Quarry last sunday, or so called Adrenalin Gateway.

It was round 2 of the Hope race series, some nice bikes about.

Its only a small place with around 8km of trails, we clocked up 11mile cos we were sessioning parts. My bike really does need a pair of suspension forks though, the black run was a killer!

On a even better note, got a lovely bike coming my way next week............

LITESPEED OBED!!!! YUM!!!!!!!!!

Pics will be posted and review when it arrives
