I was looking at upgrades ages ago and the LBS recommended these as opposed to the Zipp 404's I was looking at. They are supposed to handle cross winds better than the zipps as well.

The Enve's come with lifetime crash repair warranty and 5 year warranty on everything else the LBS has a race team and they have all gone over to Enve's and reckon they are a better wheel than the Zipps they replaced.

OK they are not cheap, and they are complete overkill for what I need a wheelset for. LBS did me 10% discount on RRP....

Basically same price as my LOOK frameset was... I look at it this way

I've had as ****e time with work the last 12 months and have ended up being very unwell and on anti depressants and all sort of stuff.

I dont drink, dont smoke, cycling is pretty much my only hobby now.

If I keep pouring money into the Kysriums needed a new rim every 12 - 18 months I am going to end up spending the same sort of money piece meal over time anyway...

Well thats how i justfied it anyway

Aye, I can sympathise with you having a carp time at work, especially if it makes you THAT unwell.

Cycling as you know, is a great therapy to all thats bad our particular worlds.

As you say, you could keep spending loads of money on getting the Mavic's re rimmed, but its not worth it.

Especially when you turn up on your Look with them Enve's on!

Any Tom,**** or Harry can have those but not everyone has those. No need to justify the spend, you've got to spend you money on something, whether its wine, women, crack or carbon fibre wheels.

Enjoy!

Just noticed this thread

I used to do a couple hundred miles a week - my best ride was the 2013 hell of the north, 100 miles in north yorkshire (so not flat!!) and i averaged just over 20mph ..admittedly i was hanging onto the group and i blew to bits with about 15 miles left though!

..unfortunately i had heart surgery last year and just when i was getting into it again the cold weather stopped me in my tracks!
But i'll be back out soon!!

Most riders I know who go through the winter find breathing hard when it gets cold. Don't expect to go out and be able to do what you can in the summer, spend longer warming up and keep the effort steady, winter riding is about base ....nice consistent steady riding. Also some people who don't normally suffer from asthma can suffer from it winter riding ...I do on the coldest days, an inhaler helps.

Yes, its something I struggle with. Yesterday on the outward leg of my ride I was just floating along with the lovely tail wind, only the steepest hills required a bit more effort.

But the return leg into the cold easterly headwind coming off the sea was another matter, breathing was much harder & I find it difficult breathing riding into a headwind

Definitely, the last two weekends I've ridden were chalk and cheese ...the first weekend was calm and cold, around 4 degrees, the second was a warm 14 degrees, however despite a 25mph headwind for the last 65 miles the average was 2mph faster, the biggest difference was how we felt though, the colder ride I would rate as one of the hardest rides I've done, the last 30 miles were purgatory, the warmer ride was a pleasure

I used to ride in the cold no bother - the biggest problem I'd have was my hands freezing! But since the op its just too hard
