Default I tweaked plowsies nipples...

Plowsie popped over tonight for his rear wheel that hes been having problems with....

The slight buckle was indeed only slight but when I looked closer all the spokes nipples were finger tight

If halfords had given that a proper first service to check everything was tight, I'll be a 6 foot blonde with big t1ts!!

There was about 2 inches of play in all the spokes!!

I really cant see how you didnt flatten that wheel mate!!

(i have blue bike, blue helmet)

Been riding for about a fortnight now and it's a lot of fun. The bike cost a huge £85 from amazon. I'm sure a more expensive/better bike would be awesome!!

Nice looking video

We ride here quite a bit:-

Chalk it down to experience matey, I can't help my greatness

Now bow down to me.

As per dead wheel, I haven't rode since Monday. Went to gym yesterday and went on the exermasize bikes and did a few klicks. Gonna get the buckle fixed and hopefully do a few miles on Sunday.

Not every mechanic that works for them is as good as me.

If the wheel is faulty, take it back to the store it came from and express your concern. If the bike is under a year old it is covered against manufacturing faults. If the bike is over a year old, they may claim that it is general wear and tear.

If you then have issues with the store, make a phone call to customer services and state your case to them. They will record your complaint and will contact the store manager directly to investigate. The investigation can take up to two weeks and after that they will try to resolve any issues you may have.

As a side issue, most wheels out there are machine built, which is a cheap and fast way of doing it. Good wheels are built by hand and excellent wheels are built by hand by an expert wheel builder. Cheap machine built wheels are often loose and poorly adjusted, but pass minimum safety standards. However a wheel of this quality will eventually let you down.

No matter what bike you have, a pair of hand built wheels are an instant improvement over the cheap machine built wheels supplied because every spoke is adjusted and a good builder will even use a anti seize on the spoke threads so the wheel can be adjusted over it's life.

My wheels are hand built and ten years old now, but then I did build them myself and I have had to true them a couple of times because I ride like a maniac!

Gonna take it back to Halfrauds tomorrow and see what they say.

So how much would a set of hand built wheels cost?

That is a hard question to answer because there are so many variables.

First of all Spokes, your choice is usually stainless or plated steel in plain, butted, double butted or triple butted. Prices start at around £12 per wheel. You can find Titanium spokes, but they are rare and brittle. Carbon spokes are a bad idea on an MTB, but some have tried them.

Rims come in many designs depending on brake type, bike use and weight. A lightweight racing, disk specific rim will cost more than a mid range double wall rim brake design. Look out for Mavic because their stuff is first rate. Rims start at about £15 each.

Hubs come in so many makes and uses, shimano are reasonable quality, although starting below Deore is probably not worth it due to the great value of Deore. I use Hope, which despite the greater cost was worth every penny. Ten years old and still as smooth as the day I opened the box, despite seven thousand miles of use. A front shimano can be as little as £10 if you get the right one.

Labour charge can be anywhere between £15 and £30 per wheel depending on your bike shop.

Have a look at Merlin who offer ready built wheel packs that they put together them selves.

Hope that this is of help.
