yes .. my personal favourite is cannondale's slate lefty although gravel bikes do seem to be a bit jack of all trades and master of none. I can see a frankenstein gravel bike in the near future

I'm keeping an eye out for an old lightweight steel road frame that took 27 x 1 1/4" wheels, which I hope to convert into a cheap commuter "gravel bike" by using 700c wheels with 32c CX tyres. Something cheaper than my road bike which I keep trashing riding the gravel and mud paths on my 20 mile round trip commute.

It is weird, a gravel bike would probably be perfect for my commute to work but I'd rather convert the Triban with wider tyres, and get a better lighter road bike (preferably with disc brakes) for fun rides out.

I really have done this the wrong way round haven't I.

Did someone say gravel bike? this is my incarnation of Pookie's Frankenstein bike and I invented it before this current rash of fashionable gravel bikes

IMAG0212 by maviczap, on Flickr

Its an MTB frame, with 700c carbon forks, from a Voodoo cross bike. 700c disc wheels, 35mm Schwalbe cross tyres, 46/36 cross chainset. Tiagra shifters, deore rear mech.

The only brand new parts were the wheels, everything else was 2nd hand off Ebay or from my parts bin. The frame I bought years ago, built it up as an MTB, but didn't like it. Think the frame cost £70 new

I could fit wider tyres, there's plenty of clearance.

Its a great ride

Can you give me Pookies address please?

Not that I'm gonna come down and borrow it or anything

Looks great.

The clearance on the back is enough for wider than 35c too ?

Yes, although how much i don't know.

I could always stick a mountain bike wheel in, although then it would really look like a Frankenstein bike!
