They are rebadged Ultegra SPD-SL pedals. Same weight, same RRP, etc, but anodised black and renamed PD-R670
Tried these out for the first time yesterday evening. Same shoes as I'd used with SPDs and what a difference. Much more "solid" feeling, probably due to the larger surface area of the pedal and cleat. More comfortable and just as easy to use, too

Well worth the investment.

That's why I don't like the road SPD's, its a bit like pedaling on a chestnut and why I haven't changed from my standard sized Look pedal to the smaller Keo version.

Might be alright to use a small pedal, if you're using super stiff carbon soled shoes

Oh dear part deax...

Somehow I've been convinced to keep the old Mongoose as a daily hack and build myself a new bike

Parts bought so far:

Kona Four '08 frame w/ Rockshox Monarch shock
Rockshox Recon Race 100mm fork
Hayes HFX9 f/r w/ 200mm rotors
XT f/r mechs
SLX shifters
Deore crank/cassette
Alex Ace rims on Shimano/KK hubs

All parts either BNIB or hardy used - only the seat / handlebars / stem will be coming from the old bike until I work out what geometry I need and get new ones

Total cost ~£600

I'm tinkering with the idea of buying a cyclocross frame and forks for the winter. I'll swap most of my bits off my training bike, but having a bike I can use off road or on road with full mudguards

Works out a lot cheaper than a new MTB

Yipee and hooray for me, I've just collected my new bike!

It's amazing how far the tech has come since my last bike, a Rocky Mountain from '94 or '95. The fork on the Trek, whilst still a "budget" model is soooo plush and comes with remote lockout on the bars. The frame is hydroformed into odd shapes at the headtube making a super-stiff frame. It accelerates like a cat with a firework tied to it's bum!

Only one problem,

I'm really, really unfit!

Oh well, time to get to work on the spare tyre!

Looking good, what kind of brakes have you on the bike? The remote lock out is very useful feature makes it a lot easy to flick it on and off...the one thing I found is I should pull on brakes too hard they stop very quickly!

Brakes are Avid Juicy 3's. I nearly went over he bars first time I squeezed the lever!

Ridiculous power!

I found that too, brilliant brakes. Stop on a penny. Happy Days.
