To be fair if I thought it would fit you Dean I would have sent you the link. Taken me two days to decide to check it out

Well, much to Dean's annoyance (haha!) I purchased the little Boardman road bike:

And took it out for a first little run:

Well, it's lovely! The difference in weight, shifting and rolling compared to the little B'Twin I have been using is pretty eye opening. i am pretty impressed with he SRAM chainset, well, once I learned how to use them anyways. Fine after the first 15 mins but I was still shifting the wrong way a few times on the way home.

Issues, well nothing to particularly worry about. The bar tape is both filthy and hasn't been put on very well. I usually always have black bar tape and haven't actually ever replaced it, so suggestions for what to buy welcome. Dunno whether to just go black, or maybe yellow. Or maybe bright pink

It's running fine but i will likely throw on a 10spd Ultegra/105 chain and cassette to make sure. I will swap the 25c Gatorskins from the B'Twin onto there after getting a puncture on the 23c Ultra race tyres. Getting punctures on my commute isn't as annoying as I am only 2.5 miles to work. Apart from that I will look to replace the Aksium race wheels in a month or two.

Good run out on it today, took over 2mins off my time up a climb so weight makes a decent difference after all Also was on slippy crap plastic pedals as I left my 15mm spanner in the car and couldn't put my clipless ones on. Good to see how much more advantage gain i can get when clipped in.

Anyways, happy me!

You're a brave soul, going out in weather like that!

I found carbon fibre to be a revelation, compared to alu or steel.

Bloomin bargain by the look of it

Bargain man. Ride it like you stole it lol

Black hides the dirt better bit maybe a bit of colour would lift it. I use fizik tape, it's reasonable price wise and feels good.

The weather wasn't too bad today, that pic was taken at about 1100ft.

Been a few years since I had a Carbon bike, guess I had just forgotten how nice it was.

Trying to ride it like I stole it, just not fit enough!

Yeah I reckon yellow to match the bits of the frame, but that's almost as bad as white for getting manky looking. So might pick something random, will have a look at the fizik stuff cheers.

Yeah bargain alright, so long as the frame doesn't randomly snap it's a steal.

I must stop looking for bikes, just seen a lovely Genesis Equilibrium for £425, which would have made a lovely winter bike. My size too

Mav you're looking for me OK.

AJC, you are dead too me. DEAD I TELL YOU!!! Lets be honest though if it fits you my stumpy little legs wouldn't cope... Gotta say I went past the Crow Road today looked at the snowline and thought Strathblane was the better option.

Good looking bikes, buy it! I have just bought one and I am still checking out Gumtree. It's an addiction!

Yeah yeah I have the Boardman and the B'Twin sat right next to each other and the top tube/standover height is just slightly higher on the Boardman so you would likely struggle.

I saw the snow and was just praying the road was nice and clear, it was fine. Freaking myself out on the way down though, pedals were slippy and I was scared the bike might slide on the sharper corners.
