me have pooped in here to give you info..

long story but basically my mate ordered soem lights for his bike from Halfords on line..

went to collect them and they were &80 in store but he got them for £36 or similar.

chatted to the man and he said most things on line and collect in store are a lot lot cheaper .. saves them time explaining stuff to customers etc etc so u get it cheaper to just collect.

true|?

experience of it?

If so it could be a good help to some of you ..

(matt I will call you at 7pm tonight- promise..)

just wanted to canvas opinions, cyclo cross or mtb with slicks on a 45mile roud trip commute. I fancy riding into work one day or two over summer. Currently own various mtb's but was wondering if i should venture into a cyclo cross type

That sounds like an excuse being made for buying a new bike A good mountain bike with slicks is decently fast, but, also very stealable. A cheap road bike or specific commuter bike will be faster but also generally less attractive to thieves. Also saves on expensive drivetrain etc.

I really like my commuter, it's my cheapest bike and the heaviest too, but it's fast, it's tough, and all the parts are dirt cheap. Plus it looks like it belongs in a skip so I barely need to lock it.

you're so right northwind, already more bikes than humans in our household. I'm not the fastest road / mtb rider, more like steady eddy. I wondered if the position and gearing would be better / comfortable on a longer distance with the option for road / mtb riding.

strap round your belly is uncomfortable bent over the bars.

Plus you look a tit with all your lycra and bum-bag.

I've got a Fizik saddle bag, but I also have a fizik saddle and the dedicated fizik bags have a clip that slots into a recess on the saddle. So no strap around the seat post.

Not much cop if you dont have a Fizik saddle already though, but its the only system I've seen that doesnt involve having a strap around your seat post...

I havent got a picture to hand right now, but I can take one tonight of how it clips together and post it up if you like.

Neither for that length of commute both will be compromised, ( unless you fit your cyclo cross with slick road tyres )

TBH I'd just buy a dedicated road bike and have done with it.
