Thirded here. Bloody awful ride down to Shipley this morning (and way back) to the Ducati Demo day. Kind of wish I'd done something else as I wasnt that thrilled with the 796 Hypermotard. The roads were strewn with salt and muck and the Triumph looks worse than it did before I washed and polished it yesterday.

I wish this weather would improve soon. I know we're technically still in the grip of winter, but its been miserably cold and wet for weeks now.

Well took the new steed out as it was a lovely sunny day, the roads were white with salt but dry. She rides beautifully, very stable at speed but agile enough. Maxed out at 75kph on the Crimea, bike tracked great and felt secure. Worries about climbing with a 25-11 cassette with a compact proved un-founded, a big day climbing including the steep side of the Crimea (18% max) which I made mostly in the saddle. A headwind kept the average down to 23kph after I was dropped by the fast boys and rode a lot of the ride alone, caught between two groups.

Loving it.

Moved your post here Mav, trying not to derail the other thread . That is money I saved and the domestic bank manager moved out 4 years ago!

Forgot to mention in the earlier post, my touch of new bike luck... Touched wheels in the group and went down. Took someone with me too . No damage to either bike or riders, but one of my levers has a scratch now.

Phew, just a scratch, but I know how you feel

I don't have that problem, as most of my rides are done on my own

Touched wheels and just a scratch you are very lucky Mike, that could have been carnage.

Ramping up the milleage now. Done a total of 33.58 miles today. Over 3 rides, cycle to work, then ride at lunch time, then ride home. Ride home tonight included one if not the steepest hills in the local area. Done pretty much all of it apart from a dozen pedal strokes or so done in the saddle.

the garmin tells me that at some point its 20%, not long but short and steep and done on a 39 x 27. I train on a standard double and then switch it out for a compact for the sportives i.e. 50 x 34.

Look at the graph, its the big lump in the middle.

Seriously contemplating another bike, LBS have a look 586 in last years colours that they think is probably my size, that they will knock £500 off the price of the frame off, I dont need wheels as I have them already so just waiting to see what the cost is going to be for the frame + 105 grouset.

Eek...
