I have been getting an intermittent petrol leak on my SV650s K6 sport.
Occassionally when starting the engine in the morning I could smell petrol. After not using the bike for 2 weeks when i was on holiday I started the bike and it deposited about half a litre of petrol over the engine before I turned it off. I lifted up the tank and checked all the pipework , but couldn't see where it was coming from. Put it all back together and it didn't reoccur. Now every now and again it leaks petrol when I start it up. It is dripping from below the throttle bodies , not the pump. It is only evident on start up when the pump is running, ie when the petrol is under pressure. The bike is running perfectly normal otherwise . Just wondered if anyone has experienced similar , particularly if they discovered where it is leaking from. I am assuming it is a faulty seal ,or is there some sort of pressure relief valve ? Started bike this morning and about half a teacup of petrol poured out. Turned off the engine and went and got a torch. Nothing came out when I restarted it but I could see the pipe between the the two throttle bodies was covered in petrol so , it is either coming from above it or spraying on to it. Looks like another strip down next weekend .
I was beginning to think it was the flexible connection where the pipe from the tank enters the throttle body, which is why I can never find anything when the tank is lifted. When you lift the tank the connection obviously swivels. Faulty seal ?? The only other thing I can think of ,is it is something to do with the mechanism that controls the fuel injection equivalent of a choke. This would be why it only happens in the morning after the bike has not been used for a couple of days. I have spoken to my Suzuki main dealer and they are not aware of any similar problems.I am reluctant to get them to look at it because there is nothing visually wrong ,and so far it has never leaked when the tank is raised. |

Not sure about this. Does the pointy have a drain pipe that runs right through the tank?
It could be this which has corroded through? |

For the benefit of anybody using the search facility for a similar fault.
I think I have resolved the problem. There is a petrol hose that runs between the front and rear throttle bodies. It is fastened at each end by a suicide clip. I found one of the clips loose meaning the hose was leaking. Replaced the clip with a jubilee clip , and hopefully that has solved it. |
