Question Fitting Fender Extender?

Have got new pyramid f/e to fit and wanted some advice. Was hoping the sticky pads would be enough to hold it but thats obviously not the case so i need to drill pilot holes. Any hints/ tips cos im not experienced at this stuff and dont want to end up cracking the front guard. Thanks in advance xx

I got a tube of evostik (£5-6 B&Q) waterproof flexi badboy stuff. Worked a treat

Remove mudguard/fender.

Use a wee bit sandpaper on the outside of the fender extender and the underside of the mudguard/fender.

Clean with a damp cloth and dry.

Stick evostik onto extender and locate onto mudguard/fender.

I used a couple of clamps (look like masive clothes pegs) and some cardboard to stop any marks.

left it overnight near to radiator for a bit heat.

Mine's fixed with screws, I found that if you make the holes in the extender then mark through to the mudguard, which I put electricians tape on first it will drill ok

Glue it on.

I used an Evostick product called "Wetgrab" I bought from B & Q.

You want to make sure both surfaces ( the mudguard and the extenda ) are clean and dry and if you roughen them up a little first with sandpaper or wet and dry it keys the surface and gives the glue something to grip to.

I've stuck two extenda's on this way works fine and I prefer it to the drilling holes method.

You mght need to unbolt the mudguard to stick the fenda extenda on but its an easy enough job to do.

Cheers guys, i really am reluctant to start drilling so im gonna try glueing first and if it dont work then i'll have to re-think and take the plunge. In the meantime... 'Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho, to BandQ i go.....'

Fitted mine with screws, bit daunting on a brand new bike but, measure twice drill once.

I cheated - the dealer fitted mine (with screws) before I collected the bike.

I've read many posts on here from people who have glued them using various glues and had no problems, however I wasn't so lucky - after a ride one day I noticed that my fender extender simply wasn't there any more. My second one is screwed on and hasn't budged in about 20k miles.

I always screw mine in place. I don't want something glued in a position where it could get detached and end up wedging the front wheel up or breaking the front mudguard. Just remember that on a standard SV the left front brake line runs over the mudguard, if the mudguard gets mullered it may well take out the brake line with it leaving you with no front brakes.

This is exactly the reason why ACU regs won't allow a brake line to run over a mudguard from left to right, they have to run separately and down each side. It was brought in after a Ducati rider had his mudguard shatter and wipe out his brakes... he died because of this.

Screw them in place, people, don't do half a job.
