Fizz I refuse to accept the gentle rebuff on this point (although I understand where you are coming from and who has passed the comment of mybeing "self opinionated in the past. )). It is not a question at all of one person's opinion having more value than that of anothers. It is the content within the opinion that just appears so flawed. This is not either a case of me defending the Ducati name!

The 999 is not an all out track weapon at all,if so that could be said of my 749s. Yes to safely tap in to it's true potential the track would be the place to do it as with any sports bike like your Gixxer for example.

But to jump from a SV650 and say the 999 or any other leading edge sportsbike didn't "have it" well I'm sorry I cannot go with that at all. If so what the hell are we all doing buying sportsbikes and leaving the SV behind???? There's no point is there?

If your not gonna try and feel the differences on offer, hey that would be like buying a new stereo and never turning the volume on!

Yes a 748/9 would be far easier to live with for someone hopping off an SV, but to talk down a bike...any bike because it does not have the same riding characteristics than what you are used to???

On track or road it would take a lot more than a few minutes to really enjoy the difference and the potential that such a machine offers.

I personally would never pass comment on any bike based on no more than the equivalent of twice around the block.

Erh.. Peter, You do realise that Scoobs' current bike is a CBR600RR don't you ?

He hasnt had an SV for quite some time. Also he does ride it hard and certainly likes to extract the performance from it where its safe to do so. I've ridden with him a few times and he's somebodies opinion who I would value on this kind of subject as I do yours.

I think hes probably in a good place to make these observations given his current ride.

I thought this was a thread about the SP2 / Blade not a Ducati dicussion ?

Fizz err hello.....pay attention. Did not Blue SV650 bring in to the equation the 999?

Also yes this did begin with Scoobs mentioning his double test ride. I did pass what any reasonable minded person could only take as a fair comment did I not? Unless you believe a test ride in no more than 2nd gear is a fair test of a Fireblade???

I am completely aware of the fine machine that Scoobs presently rides, more so then the need to actually ride the Fireblade a little bit more to be able to see what it offers.
Then Scoobs could simply turn around and say,"Well I had a taste of what the Fireblade could bring me,but after consideration I dont think I need to make the step up...etc...etc"

Fiz, I think this is actually sorta my fault, my bad??

Peter - when I rode the 999 I had never sat on an SV650, let alone owned one!! That came much later!!

You are also kinda assuming that I have little riding experience/comparison.

Each to their own, but to me, my point was I’d happily try the latest ‘kit’ out, but would not put my hand in my pocket to buy one (any more), if it gives someone wood to own a GIXER thou, then good luck to them, but I will snigger if they then say anything smaller just isn’t fast enough for them!!

I'd like to try more. I like the 999 but it isn't for me. Cost of ownership would be too high as I ride every day. Never really fancied the Mille. I had an RS125 and it's kinda put me off the brand. I would never say they were rubbish though.

I reckon so to, but I would still have one. No one needs one, but it would be nice to have.

I did actually get past 2nd. The test ride was for 30 mins on a mixture of A's, B's and motorway. In a back to back with my bike the 600RR felt really weak in comparison.

I would make the step up but to what....I am not sure. I need to try the R1, ZX10, RSV etc first.

Now play nice you lot or it's bed no tea.

Erh.. Peter go and read your first post in the thread...

You then appear to take umbridge with Blue_SV650S when he said he didnt like the 999. I agree the Ducati is a fine marque, But like every bike / manufacturer it no doubt has it flaws. I'm in no position to discuss these though as I havent had the pleasure of riding one. Just seems to me that everytime one of these threads comes up and somebody has an opinion that involves a Duke that you don't agree with you feel inclined to argue to the toss till the person you are arguing with loses the will to live or gives up.

Might I enquire as to whether or not you've ridden a blade or an SP2 ?

Personally I think that even a short 30 minute test ride on roads that you know well might well be enough to give you a flavour of the bike. However as in all these things more time on the bike would give more time to explore it. I'll agree with you on that.

Yep, but that's not what he said was it? He actually said "bearing in mind I expected something special, I wasn’t actually that impressed!!!". You seem to be taking it as preferring the SV. He says he was expecting much more and it didn't measure up.
