cheers viney, I've got a dreml that might have some polishing attatchments actually thinking about it. Is there any alternative to nitromors, like not using it or using normal strippers or thinners?

To get it to shine like Lissas or mine, strip it down with normal paint stripper. I got some in a can from my hardware shop, it was much thicker than nitromorse, for my rims I painted it on with an artist 1 inch brush, and it was self neutralising, to make sure it was all off i rinsed it with water. I did both my forks and rims with 240 wet n dry, then went down the grades 400, 800, 1200, then got some finw wire wool and some autosol to get a perfect finish. I found the dremel slipped a little too much and was a pain, but it was good to get the rest of the gunk off my downpipe

I think when metal is polised it is relacquered after it is polished to protect the bare metal

no need to bother re laquering once you've polished them. It defeats the object of getting rid of the bad corrosion in the first place. When the laquer starts coming away, and the salt and muck gets up and under it, thats when you get it looking crap...so whats the point, you'd only be chasing your own tail again..much easier to get the autosol out and keep up with the shine

No.... That is the problem with the SV straight out of the factory, the lacquer starts to pit and makes the forks look awful. The best thing to do is strip the lacquer off and polish the forks, look after them and they will look shiny for years to come.
